RiRiIII
To be issued as a 3-cd set: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00IGAPO8Y/ref=gno_cart_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE
sonnymax
This material has been reissued so many times, including fairly recently releases by various Andorran labels. Is there anything that makes this set special?
king ubu
Special? Probably that it's a blatant rip-off of the recent Amsterdam set that to my best knowledge was as official as these radio archival releases get?http://www.plosin.com/milesAhead/Disco.aspx?id=Amsterdam60 Not sure what "complete" means, but I guess adding the Scheveningen set (another disc) would ... an oft-circulated fine recording - alas Sony feghed up with the big KoB box by only adding one title from it. Clunky
I really hate these PD releases for the confusion they cause. I wouldn't be surprised if some buyers are put off legit archival reissues by the likes of Uptown by shoddy PD issues. I'd drop the links BTW to be in concordance with house rules
king ubu
well, we don't *know* it's a boot (but still we know, don't we?) ... but that's part of their game

king ubu
I still don't have it ... but jazzmessengers.com is selling these Netherlands Jazz Archive sets. That though is the other sorry-assed aspect of those bootleg labels growing faster then some fungus ... they get wide distribution, wider than the original often. king ubu
Oh, good! I thought they had to close because the state stopped funding it? I was actually wondering how long these discs might still be around, as I plan to get a few others besides the Miles (the J.J. looks mighty tasty, of course Mulligan with Eardley and Zoot, the Loevendie, the Chet). And I see there's a Rita Reys one? What's on it?The Miles isn't in the list though, and the Sassy is missing as wellHere's the link to jazzmessengers.com's page of NDA offerings:http://www.jazzmessengers.com/en/27832455/complete-catalog-of-the-label-dutch-jazz-archivesBesides the Miles and Sassy, there's discs by Misha Mengelberg, Art Blakey and Lee Konitz/Zoot Sims, too - they all look tasty! But they don't have the Loevendie ... page
The Miles is on the list. I took the first link away since it looks old and it isn't available through the main page. The one that is left is, so that should be correct. Here is something said about how they prevented the closing down. http://www.jazzarchief.nl/category/uncategorized/ You can actually visit the place on some days and look yourself. You do have to make an appointment for that, but still. I'll look whether I can find what's on the Rita Reys album. jazzbo
Kind of shitty to boot the two concerts that came out of the archive, these haven't to my knowledge been out over and over again like some other appearances and sessions. David Ayers
PD, not a boot, as it was broadcast. The first five tracks on disk 3 are Scheveningen. Which leaves the remaining four, which look to me like Duesseldorf!
David Ayers
Miles is not on the Duesseldorf tracks. Losin lists three [of the four] http://www.plosin.com/milesahead/Sessions.aspx?s=600328. The sequence of Autumn Leaves/What's New/Moonlight in Vermont, which Losin does not have, features Stan Getz. The disc 3 material is also disc 3 of this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004WJRJJK/ref=dm_rogue_cd Hopefully after all that explanation everyone is past caring Edited February 26, 2014 by David Ayers
page
Hi king ubu, this I've able to find out about the Rita Reys album: It is called "I got rhythm" and there are rare recordings on it from the period 1949 - 1961. Some from the 1961 national broadcast by the VARA (that's a television/radio network) with the "Boy's Big Band". That was the big band of Boy Edgar, a famous jazz musician, we even have a prize called in his name. Other recordings are with the "Lars Gullin Quartet" and the "Lind Sextet", some with the trio of her husband Pim Jacobs and with others. You can see which songs and bands here: http://www.muziekweb.nl/Link/JFX3590 Here is a full song to listen to: Edited February 26, 2014 by page
page
Hi Cyril, no I'm afraid I don't have it. He compiled this cd I see. I'll see whether the library has the book. Thank you for mentioning.
