Milestones Posted January 27, 2014 Report Posted January 27, 2014 I've been having a strange problem lately where my newly burned CDs won't play on my old Sony CD player--my best sound system. They play fine in my car, and seem OK on portable players. I thought it might be an issue with burning as data CD rather than audio CD, or that I was recording at too high a speed. But it is definitely neither of these. It's happened only recently on about 5 CDs. The problem is occurring with both TDK and Memorex discs. Quote
sonnymax Posted January 27, 2014 Report Posted January 27, 2014 I may be wrong, but isn't the inability to play CD-rs or CDs that are in less-than-perfect condition one of the signs that a player is on it's way out? Quote
Jerry_L Posted January 27, 2014 Report Posted January 27, 2014 (edited) I've had this problem with Sony hardware before, but I don't know why it would suddenly occur if the player never had this problem before. You could try a lens cleaning. However, I suspect it is linked to Sony's counterfeit detection firmware. Edited January 27, 2014 by Jerry_L Quote
Milestones Posted January 27, 2014 Author Report Posted January 27, 2014 (edited) That could be. The machine is old enough--probably bought it more than 20 years ago. However, it's still fine for playing regular CDs and apparently all my older burned CDs. Edited January 27, 2014 by Milestones Quote

I have a Sony that's going to turn 20 this summer, and although I rarely burn these days, over the years a few wouldn't play. Quote
