miles65 Posted August 10, 2012 Author Report Posted August 10, 2012 (edited) Great news indeed! The Monterey set I got mostly because of that Mingus track (there's some other interesting music spread on the three discs). I wonder if they found more, unreleased material from that concert? Guess not or Cuscuna would have stated so. If you go to the discography you will see the following tracks for this session: Arts Of Tatum And Freddie Webster previously unissued Don’t Let It Happen Here Malpaso/Warner Bros. CD 9-46703-2 They Trespass The Land Of The Sacred Sioux East Coasting ECEP-1 When The Saints Go Marching In previously unissued Wich is the same tracklisting as on: Monterey 1965 Priestley writes about this performance (pages 166/167): The performance at Monterey,..., was less than totaly relaxed and ended prematurely with Mingus leading his men offstage while playing When The Saints Go Marching In. I guess Mosaic has the whole set. Edited August 10, 2012 by Stompy Jones Quote

tranemonk Posted August 10, 2012 Report Posted August 10, 2012 Don't get me wrong I'm happy with this set... but I'm hoping there's more than 31 minutes of music on Disc VII. (I'm assuming that's what you meant instead of Disc VI. But maybe you did mean disc 6? ) Very cool indeed! Disc VI: Mingus At Monterey, September 18, 1965 1. CraigP Posted August 11, 2012 Report Posted August 11, 2012 Yes, I was on the fence until now - gotta get it! Quote
Adam Posted August 11, 2012 Report Posted August 11, 2012 I'm excited by this and will get it. Just throwing a hypothetical question out there. If you had a Mingus set with a hole in it, wouldn't you first think of checking the Mingus Archives at the Library of Congress? Why didn't they or Sue think of that? Quote

If you had a Mingus set with a hole in it, wouldn't you first think of checking the Mingus Archives at the Library of Congress? Why didn't they or Sue think of that? Have to agree. If they didn't check it on this occasion it means they probably never check public archives for anything. It also means they didnt talk to too many experts. Quote
colinmce Posted August 11, 2012 Report Posted August 11, 2012 From what I see this set moved very quickly; from all I know of Michael, Scott, et al's practices this is not normally how they do business-- look at the Hawkins set, for which they scoured the globe. It seems to me that Sue came to them with a bundle of material and they ran with it since the set is obviously such a winner and would yield big sales in any form, a stream of revenue they could probably do with sooner rather than later. I'm glad they got it sorted out, though. Quote
J.A.W. Posted October 24, 2012 Report Posted October 24, 2012 Scott told me the Mingus will be delayed. They just heard that the CDs will not be in as planned on October 30 but a week later. Quote
