Matthew Posted June 30, 2012 Report Posted June 30, 2012 I know a lot of people don't take anything on the KUDU label too seriously, but Johnny Hammond's Higher Ground is a great funky & greazy album. It has the usual CTI / KUDU suspects: Bob James, George Benson, Hank Crawford, but it also has some interesting additions -- Joe Henderson, Jack Dejohnette, and Steve Gadd. Good arrangements, fine playing, with one of my favorites being Summertime / The Ghetto. Worth checking out if you come across it in the cd bins. Quote
mjzee Posted June 30, 2012 Report Posted June 30, 2012 I really love this album: It's Too Late and Never Can Say Goodbye...it's like I'm transported back to 1971, but in a groovy way. And Blues Selah is such a funky tune... Quote
