connoisseur series500 Posted July 8, 2005 Report Posted July 8, 2005 how is this? ss1 ← Not one of my faves. I'm not a huge fan of the Lonnie/Kudo period. Pretty low on the Lonnie list for me, but others may differ. ← On the other hand, I very much find this one a keeper. "Mama Wailer" is a great tune. Pick it up, SS1. Quote
Soulstation1 Posted July 11, 2005 Report Posted July 11, 2005 the greastest recording company in history imo Quote

Big Al Posted July 29, 2005 Author Report Posted July 29, 2005 I know it's got a KILLER "Back at the Chicken Shack." I don't have it, but I should. Quote
Soul Stream Posted July 29, 2005 Report Posted July 29, 2005 I know it's got a KILLER "Back at the Chicken Shack." I don't have it, but I should. ← It's definately on of Reuben's best recordings ever. He really gets to show himself a little more on this one as opposed to a producer making him play "Ronnie's Bonnie" for the upteenth time (hey, I love that song too!). Quote
Soulstation1 Posted August 1, 2005 Report Posted August 1, 2005 just downloaded from emusic i like every hammond smith cd i own Quote
CJ Shearn Posted August 2, 2005 Report Posted August 2, 2005 SS1 you burn CD's of the stuff you d/l from emusic? I used to do that cuz its less than the cost of buying an album from Fantasy's list price. Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted August 2, 2005 Report Posted August 2, 2005 any reviews? ← Mama Wailer is better... Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted August 2, 2005 Report Posted August 2, 2005 just downloaded from emusic i like every hammond smith cd i own ← Johnny Hammond Smith is/was very underrated. I enjoy all his discs, as well and always find something interesting in the arrangements and tune choices. Quote
Matthew Posted August 4, 2005 Report Posted August 4, 2005 Nice, funky set by Melvin Sparks Band: August 3, 2003. North Beach Jazz Festival., that's worth a listen. Sparks is in pretty good form and the sound is good. Quote
Sundog Posted August 9, 2005 Report Posted August 9, 2005 any thoughts?? ← This is an underrated album showcasing Pat in his early days. I can't imagine that you wouldn't like this album. Quote
Matthew Posted August 9, 2005 Report Posted August 9, 2005 Just had to say that, after listening to Let 'em Roll again, that this is a monster record. Latona is such a great song, and the way this cd is sequenced, I mean, can The Shadow Of Your Smile come at any other place? This has to be at the very top of my essential organ records. Quote
