GA Russell Posted February 5, 2014 Report Posted February 5, 2014 Back to the Bootleg Vol. 3 box coming out next month... so many positive reactions here are making me rethink my initial reluctance to get this box.... sk, It's my attitude that I will scarf up any 4-CD pre-retirement Miles box of previously unreleased live material if it is reasonably priced. Sometimes it's not in my budget, but that's another matter! Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted February 5, 2014 Report Posted February 5, 2014 After Wayne left, the saxophone chair never became much of a focus for me with any of Miles' 70's bands. Some are certainly better than others, but they are clearly not the linchpin holding everything together -- nor the primary draw, by any means. Quote

jazzbo Posted February 5, 2014 Report Posted February 5, 2014 I have the Agharta SCRS 9720/1 version and this is the actual lenght as reported by WinAmp: 1. Miles Davis - Agharta - Prelude - 1975 (32:31) 2. Miles Davis - Agharta - Maiysha - 1975 (13:09) 3. Miles Davis - Agharta - Interlude/Theme From Jack Johnson - 1975 (60:56) Long version of disc 2 also avialable on SCRS 9720/1 http://www.plosin.com/milesAhead/Disco.aspx?id=Agharta-CD3 Can you - or anybody - confirm this by experience/ownership? This one I can find with no (apparent) uncertainty, but I do want to make sure that the Losin site is getting it right, that this issue does in fact have the extra music at the end. sambrasa, thanks for providing that information. 7/4 Posted February 5, 2014 Report Posted February 5, 2014 Up 5th street on the left, long after the Fillmore was gone, Downtown Music Gallery had a store for years. Quote

Yes, thanks indeed! Hope to soon get a shipping notice from CD Japan for this one, and copped an OBI-less Mastersound Pangea for a not at all unreasonable eBay price, so, bring the noise, Japan, bring the noise! Quote
JSngry Posted February 6, 2014 Report Posted February 6, 2014 An old-school housewarming party! Quote
Aftab Posted February 6, 2014 Report Posted February 6, 2014 Just pre-ordered from amazon.uk for under $30 shipped. Man, coming back to this forum is co$ting me.... Quote
David Ayers Posted February 7, 2014 Report Posted February 7, 2014 Not costing you too much in this case though Quote
king ubu Posted February 7, 2014 Report Posted February 7, 2014 Just in case: the BluSpec has the regular-length disc two of "Agartha". Quote
jazzbo Posted February 7, 2014 Report Posted February 7, 2014 (edited) Yes, that and Pangaea, both the Blu-spec and the Blu-spec 2 have the 2006 mastering. Sounds great! I had Agharta Blu-spec 2 blaring earlier today. Edited February 7, 2014 by jazzbo Quote
erwbol Posted February 7, 2014 Report Posted February 7, 2014 (edited) My Mastersound Agharta was delivered yesterday. I listened to it late at night (in the dark). Epic concerts. Miles' organ was probably a bit more prominent on the recreated vinyl mix. But I like to be able to keep track of what the guy who is keeping track of time is doing, so I welcomed Al Foster's drum sounds. Edited February 7, 2014 by erwbol Quote
jazzbo Posted February 7, 2014 Report Posted February 7, 2014 (edited) I have about four copies of Agharta and Pangaea, including vinyl, and there's not a bad one. Epic concert, indeed. When they do finally get around to reissuing this (and issuing the sister show(s)) WOW! I have to say though, the Blu-Spec 2 sounds really good, smooth and yet not toned down, very analog like and highly crankable. My only other experience with Blu-Spec 2 is the first three Sade releases and they too are very impressive. Edited February 8, 2014 by jazzbo Quote
erwbol Posted February 8, 2014 Report Posted February 8, 2014 So even though the 2009 Wilder was based on the 2006 Sony SICP 1230/1, there is a noticeable difference with the Blu-spec 2 which reproduces that 2006 mastering? Quote
BFrank Posted February 8, 2014 Report Posted February 8, 2014 Wow, you guys are going REAL "Hoffman" on us here. [not that there's anything wrong with it] Quote
erwbol Posted February 8, 2014 Report Posted February 8, 2014 Sometimes it pays off to be precise or even borderline obsessive. Quote

Stefan Wood Posted February 8, 2014 Report Posted February 8, 2014 This is what happens when a record company mines an artist's catalog so many times. One has to become obsessive to make sense of it all. Especially now learning of the extra time in the Mastersounds edition. I fully expect the bootleg series to issue more from this time period. erwbol Posted February 8, 2014 Report Posted February 8, 2014 With the complete concert being available in both SBM and DSD remasters both labeled as Mastersound you can keep on wondering if you got the right edition in the end. Quote
jazzbo Posted February 8, 2014 Report Posted February 8, 2014 I wish I hadn't discovered the sonic benefits of Blu-Spec 2. Erwin is right: if you want them order them now. I just saw that the Monk catalog is getting Blu-Spec 2 treatment. Going to try hard to resist ordering those. Quote
Head Man Posted February 8, 2014 Report Posted February 8, 2014 .......... Going to try hard to resist ordering those. Not for me............ Quote
jazzbo Posted February 8, 2014 Report Posted February 8, 2014 Good, I'll follow your example and make myself believe it will be easy. Unless of course they offer "Big Band and Quartet". . . . Quote
jlhoots Posted February 8, 2014 Report Posted February 8, 2014 Sometimes it pays off to be precise or even borderline obsessive. Borderline would seem to be an understatement. Quote
