JSngry Posted March 29, 2014 Report Posted March 29, 2014 I'm a purist. A purist digging on Miles At Fillmore. Now that's Progress In My Lifetime! Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted March 29, 2014 Report Posted March 29, 2014 Stand on your head, problem solved! Quote
sidewinder Posted March 29, 2014 Report Posted March 29, 2014 Must say that I like the extra Fillmore West tracks, even though the sound is definitely 'bootleg' quality. Quote
jazzbo Posted March 29, 2014 Report Posted March 29, 2014 Yes, they're great tracks, I have them elsewhere, I just don't want them here, I like this as the four nights complete, in excellent sound quality. Quote
sidewinder Posted March 29, 2014 Report Posted March 29, 2014 Fair enough - personally speaking, glad to have them in this set. Quote
jazzbo Posted March 29, 2014 Report Posted March 29, 2014 I was just speaking for myself as well. Just sort of see them polluting the cohesive excellence of this set. Quote
BFrank Posted March 29, 2014 Report Posted March 29, 2014 I was just speaking for myself as well. Just sort of see them polluting the cohesive excellence of this set. Seems like they could have bundled them together onto a "disk 5". It seems odd to tack them onto the end of the Fillmore East shows. Quote
GA Russell Posted March 29, 2014 Report Posted March 29, 2014 Mine arrived from the UK today. I didn't expect it till Wednesday. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted March 30, 2014 Report Posted March 30, 2014 Mine arrived from the UK today. I didn't expect it till Wednesday. Just got mine today too (UK). Quote
sidewinder Posted March 30, 2014 Report Posted March 30, 2014 Signs of a really great release - I had intentions of listening to all 4 CDs yesterday but never got beyond CD1. It was on repeat play all day. Great stuff ! Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted March 30, 2014 Report Posted March 30, 2014 Only had an hour yesterday to sample the whole set - and I mostly cherry-picked the whole thing. Agree the sound on the bonus tracks isn't up to snuff, but musically they're cool as hell, and I for one am really glad they included them. The version of "Spanish Key" from disk two is one of the coolest things ever. "Footprints" was an eye-opener too. Hope to spin the entire set this afternoon, while my wife is going to the movies with a friend. (She was nice and tolerated the hour yesterday, but I wouldn't dare put here through the entire 4-hour experience). Quote
Leeway Posted March 30, 2014 Report Posted March 30, 2014 Still waiting on mine. Shows an April 2 delivery date. I had also ordered a Roscoe Mitchell disc with the Miles. For some reason, the RM was not "dispatched" with Miles, yet it shows a March 31- April 4 date. I guess we'll just see what shows up. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted April 4, 2014 Report Posted April 4, 2014 (edited) Finally did some in-depth listening to discs 3-4 today, and I'm even more impressed than before. Some more thoughts... 1) The interplay between Miles and Jack D. On the Disc3 version of "It's About That Time" is crazy good. 2) Agree the vamp from the last half of "Miles Runs The Voodoo Down" sounds like some other Chick tune I know. 3) "Willie Nelson" was so clear and focused, I almost wondered if I wasn't listening to a studio version (I say that, in part, because 70's live Miles so often gets to be kinda meandering at times - not always in a bad way -- these were definitely tight and focused nights, maybe because they had an hour to get in and get out). I'm damn impressed with this set (am still glad they included the bonus tracks, SQ issues and all), and I can't wait for Vol 4! Edited April 4, 2014 by Rooster_Ties Quote
BFrank Posted April 4, 2014 Report Posted April 4, 2014 I haven't ordered music from Amazon in a while and forgot that they automatically put digital versions into your Cloud Player. Was happy to see all 4 disks waiting for me on my computer yesterday - no need to burn! Quote
jazzbo Posted April 4, 2014 Report Posted April 4, 2014 Got my amazon.co.uk copy in Wednesday but haven't opened it, I have the Japanese version and am enjoying the hell out of it! It could only be better imo if the bonus tracks were saved for another bootleg edition or another release. But I'll just program those out of the two discs. Quote
tranemonk Posted April 4, 2014 Report Posted April 4, 2014 Hmm.. Haven't gotten my UK copy yet and I was one of the first who preordered... Hopefully tomorrow or Monday. Quote
Homefromtheforest Posted April 4, 2014 Report Posted April 4, 2014 I preordered mine from the UK as well a few months back...still has not shown up! Not a big deal though because I'm currently making my way through the Jack Johnson box despite having it for years! Quote
medjuck Posted April 5, 2014 Report Posted April 5, 2014 (edited) Only listened to one track so far. Really liked especially after I pumped up the volume. As the credits say, Keith is in the right channel, chic in the left. But in all the photos they show from the gig it's the opposite. So it's like being in the band facing the audience. Fun to think of it that way. I hate channel swapping! It is like seeing yourself the right way round in a mirror. How do you feel about the way Chick moves from the right ot the left channel just before Paraphernalia segues to Footprints then after a few minutes swings back again? And I like the bonus material so much that I think I may have to get Black Beauty. Also it's great to be able to compare how the group sounded with and without Keith. JSngry Posted April 5, 2014 Report Posted April 5, 2014 My order from Amazon.uk arrived...Monday, I think it was? Later than some here got theirs, but, it appears, earlier than some others. I got no shipping notices, though, which I found odd (especially since I got a shipping notice this evening from Amazon.it that I can not read one freakin' word of, a shipping notice and a promotional credit for some kind of a something, two separately sent emails sent in a language I do not understand, vs none sent in one that I do). Just went out to the mailbox one day, and there it was, Hello To You From Miles Davis, From Love, United Kingdom. So maybe there's some trans-oceanic skullduggery going on here that we might now want to know about, because if they told us they'd ahve to kill us, so, just, you, know, enjoy your CDs and leave the driving to us, ok? Just be patient and let your mailbox be there for you when the time comes. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted April 5, 2014 Report Posted April 5, 2014 Mine arrived today. Didn't really need it yesterday and $26.82 was a good price. Quote
jlhoots Posted April 5, 2014 Report Posted April 5, 2014 Mine arrived today. Didn't really need it yesterday and $26.82 was a good price. Yes it was / is. I'll open mine tomorrow / today. Quote
CJ Shearn Posted April 5, 2014 Report Posted April 5, 2014 Well, I ordered it. sampled "Directions" in the Cloud player from June 17th, sounds great. The interplay between Chick and Keith has always been astounding on this set of gigs. I will wait for the set to come to give it a proper listen, but it's such a relief to hear it outside of the original "At Fillmore" album. Quote
BFrank Posted April 5, 2014 Report Posted April 5, 2014 Finally getting a chance to listen through this. OUTSTANDING! Quote
David Ayers Posted April 5, 2014 Report Posted April 5, 2014 All these parcels dropping in the mail...It's like second Christmas! Quote
sidewinder Posted April 5, 2014 Report Posted April 5, 2014 (edited) Finally getting a chance to listen through this. OUTSTANDING! I've had CD3 on repeat play for 3 whole days and now into the 4th - a record for me. Outstanding, for sure. One big highlight for me has been Steve Grossman's work on tenor and soprano.
