soulpope Posted May 15, 2014 Report Posted May 15, 2014 (edited) Yes it is! Here's another new release that's interesting in that context because Somis was Corelli's last student and the teacher of Leclair, Guignon und Guillemain and in general of great influence on the newly forming French violin school: this looks interesting indeed - there are not too many Somis recordings, I believe the was a CD on the Symphonia label featuring some of the violin sonatas.....but again, out of memory..... Edit : the Symphonia CD as mentioned before features inter alias the following : Sonata for violin & continuo in A minor, Op 1/1 - Giovanni Lorenzo SomisSonata for violin & continuo in C major, Op 6/4 - Giovanni Battista Somis Edited May 15, 2014 by soulpope Quote
soulpope Posted May 15, 2014 Report Posted May 15, 2014 (edited) Speaking of Guido Balestracci, this fabulous original Symphonia release was reissued on Pan Classics recently : Highly recommended (also the recording itself is stunning....) !! Edited May 15, 2014 by soulpope Quote

A Lark Ascending Posted September 10, 2015 Author Report Posted September 10, 2015 (edited) A couple of new releases to 'celebrate' the death of Louis XIV in 1715: And one of those great slab box sets collecting previously released music:I have a completely unmusical (well, not completely) interest in this stuff having spent way to much time in Louis' company in the 80s and 90s (1980s and 90s, that is). Really like the ballet music which seems to jump between the graceful/'classical' and the rustic. Brings my 'classical' and 'folky' sides together. Looking forward to the first - I suspect I have a few things on the second but I imagine most will be unfamiliar so at the £27 asking price am likely to take the chance.
