Yes, he's a wonderful trumpet player, straight-ahead and boppish, but adventurous, too, well worth hearing.

Here's 3 recommendations, in order of preference (though there's really no difference between the first two - both are excellent)7168443.jpg.1358587386_front2.jpgMI0002501254.jpg?partner=allrovi.com

Oh, and he has a wonderful big band CD as well.

I've been on a Bill Holman thing of late and the Lost Holman Charts sounded tempting.

It's a good album. I came across this one recently, too:

I presume this is all on the Mosaic set?

Yes, the Great Big Band session is on the Kenton Presents Mosaic set. The Lost Charts CD is not a big band but a septet.

Saunders is very talented, and I have several of his albums (including one not mentioned above with Phil Urso, playing Chet Baker- associated material), but at times he strikes me as a bit too facile and fluid for his own good.

I have a number of Saunders albums too and have seen him live a number of times as well.

My view is basically the same as what Larry said. I enjoy Carl's playing but at times feel his solos lack

the depth necessary to have them rise to the very top level.
