Yes, he's a wonderful trumpet player, straight-ahead and boppish, but adventurous, too, well worth hearing.

Here's 3 recommendations, in order of preference (though there's really no difference between the first two - both are excellent).

Oh, and he has a wonderful big band CD as well.

Yes, the Great Big Band session is on the Kenton Presents Mosaic set. The Lost Charts CD is not a big band but a septet.

That's where I saw him and he popped up all the time - very versatile. Didn't he start out on mellophonium in the Kenton band?

I have a number of Saunders albums too and have seen him live a number of times as well.

My view is basically the same as what Larry said. I enjoy Carl's playing but at times feel his solos lack

the depth necessary to have them rise to the very top level.
