Discovered this bit of information from another forum, that J & R recently laid off their entire music staff and is no longer selling music in the store or online. Checked out their website, and this seems to be true. Has anyone been there in the past week to confirm?

That's awful, but it was only a matter of time. It was the only place I could be 99% sure they'd have the latest ECM title, the only place for CDs in that corner of town.

I spent many of my paychecks (happily) there when I worked 1 block away for about 5 years. I remember Joe Horowitz as the main guy in the jazz section. Sorry to hear this sad news, but of course, not surprised.

I surely bought some jazz there, but curiously I have much stronger memories of browsing the DVD store and picking up various items. Still, very sad tidings for those tied to brick and mortars.

J&R still sells music in store (pop and R&B), but jazz is dead. I was there on Thursday. Complete reorganization of the store. Signs were coming for years. It seemed like the jazz section shrunk weekly. Good, knowledgeable people worked the floor too. I hope they were reassigned elsewhere, but I doubt it.
