David Ayers Posted December 4, 2013 Report Posted December 4, 2013 ...to be reissued on CD and LP in January. So there you go. Quote
JSngry Posted December 4, 2013 Report Posted December 4, 2013 What if i don't live that long? Not everybody will, and I might be one of them. How is that fair? I'd like to speak to the manager, please. But now wait - I can get this now!: http://www.amazon.com/African-Piano-Dollar-Brand/dp/B0000260C9 So I guess this is at least half-fair, in which case, I will speak with the half-manager, please. David Ayers Posted December 4, 2013 Author Report Posted December 4, 2013 ...plus Gary Burton, Seven Songs for Quartet and Chamber Orchestra Miroslav Vitous Group Ralph Towner and John Abercrombie, Five Years Later Keith Jarrett, Ritual And for some reason: Keith Jarrett, Arbour ZenaI'm sure there was a polite way of saying that, Jim. At least some of these are first time on CD, my memory may fail me. Certainly Contrasts, which IMO is not such a Holy Grail but will be welcome. Quote
felser Posted December 4, 2013 Report Posted December 4, 2013 I didn't even know (or remember) Contrast exists. Quote
David Ayers Posted December 4, 2013 Author Report Posted December 4, 2013 Amazon.co.uk pre-order prices are a little spicy but will likely come down. Quote
colinmce Posted December 4, 2013 Report Posted December 4, 2013 Not ... really the ones I'd pick. Quote
David Ayers Posted December 4, 2013 Author Report Posted December 4, 2013 Not my pick either. Not sure why two re-re-issues are in there (Arbour Zena and as I now learn African Piano). Whether these are new remasterings or just straight reissues to complement the LPs who knows. In any case, I guess on this board Contrasts will prove the main curiosity, and a sign maybe of a few more deep catalogue reissues to come - ? Quote
CraigP Posted December 4, 2013 Report Posted December 4, 2013 I have Contrasts on LP, like it a lot. Quote
mjzee Posted December 4, 2013 Report Posted December 4, 2013 Was always curious about the Gary Burton; that was when he was firing on all cylinders. Quote
mjazzg Posted December 4, 2013 Report Posted December 4, 2013 I like Contrasts. George Lewis with that Rivers trio is an interesting combination. Not up there with "Conference..." but well worth a listen Quote
B. Clugston Posted December 4, 2013 Report Posted December 4, 2013 Contrasts is indeed a good one. Quote
king ubu Posted December 4, 2013 Report Posted December 4, 2013 Keith "No End"? Really? Nice about the Rivers, but I'll just stick to my LP, I guess. But why does "African Piano" need reissue, it's been around forever, hasn't it? Was it ever OOP? Anyway, it's a glorious album! Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted December 4, 2013 Report Posted December 4, 2013 On a related note, has "Sizzle" (Impulse!, 1975) ever been on CD anywhere in the world yet? That's another great RIvers date I've wanted on disc for ages (I do have it on LP). Quote
king ubu Posted December 4, 2013 Report Posted December 4, 2013 And I want "Streams"! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streams_(album) Quote

That's another great RIvers date I've wanted on disc for ages (I do have it on LP). No it hasn't, not even in Andorra. It's a really great Rivers date--can't believe no one's ever reissued it. Quote
David Ayers Posted December 4, 2013 Author Report Posted December 4, 2013 I sold both Contrasts and Sizzle. I'm a barbarian. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted December 4, 2013 Report Posted December 4, 2013 (edited) I sold both Contrasts and Sizzle. I'm a barbarian. Is this news to you? Edited December 4, 2013 by Chuck Nessa Quote
David Ayers Posted December 5, 2013 Author Report Posted December 5, 2013 I know. And I've still got all my Nessa LPs, which puts me right up there with Conan. Actually I'm perverse enough that I'll buy the Contrasts CD. I'm hoping this batch of five back catalogue issues might be a sign of more (and better) to come. Quote

David Ayers Posted March 21, 2014 Author Report Posted March 21, 2014 I just saw this page at the ECM site which confirms that these releases are all newly mastered and are part of an ongoing series, which is good news I think. Among other things, that may explain why they have chosen two titles with orchestra, as being likely to benefit from the treatment. http://ecmrecords.com/Catalogue/ECM/Other/Re_solutions.php Quote
