Dan Gould Posted November 29, 2013 Report Posted November 29, 2013 And I thought Jim had set up some jazz quiz to keep the spam bots away? Quote
J.A.W. Posted November 29, 2013 Report Posted November 29, 2013 and apparently there's no one around to clean up this mess... Quote
page Posted November 29, 2013 Report Posted November 29, 2013 Not just a spammer, he is urging to fraud. Quote
J.A.W. Posted November 29, 2013 Report Posted November 29, 2013 The same fraudulent spam messages have been posted here before, a few months ago. Apparently there's a leak somewhere. Quote
Van Basten II Posted November 29, 2013 Report Posted November 29, 2013 By experience I can tell you this that if you don't take care of the problem (Probably something that allows people to post directly) you'll pretty soon get drown in it.... Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted November 29, 2013 Report Posted November 29, 2013 Yup, One of the mods must be the executioner and exterminate the troll/spammer. Quote
erwbol Posted November 29, 2013 Report Posted November 29, 2013 (edited) Don't most newly registered accounts end up in validation hell? Even people who do not appear to be spammers end up never getting posting privileges. I thought this might be a way to keep out non-musicians (like myself). I had to register twice to get my account accepted. Edited November 29, 2013 by erwbol Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted November 29, 2013 Report Posted November 29, 2013 Out if curiosity, what are the jazz quiz questions? Quote

The mods can only delete the messages and they are MIA. Edited November 29, 2013 by J.A.W. Quote
JSngry Posted November 29, 2013 Report Posted November 29, 2013 Just woke up, not event hroguh my first cup of offee, but the posts have been deleted and the user flagged/disabled as a spammer, which is all I can do, and which should be enough until Jim A can deactivate the account altogether. king ubu Posted November 29, 2013 Report Posted November 29, 2013 Out if curiosity, what are the jazz quiz questions? Guess the merikins are all busy binge-shopping over the whole weekend ... just in case, instead of turducken, next time they could try a stuffed camel: Quote

I had to register twice to get my account accepted. I think I wouldn't have been able to get in if it wasn't for some help from another member who asked for me after 6 weeks validating. If you don't know anyone else on the forum, you are not able to ask why you aren't accepted. I think there was a question about Miles. I had to answer 3 I think. I do know it is a tough job going through all the registrations, a lot of work. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted November 29, 2013 Report Posted November 29, 2013 I manually validate all accounts. Sometimes they look very legit and it turns out they are not. It can be hard to tell. I obviously made a mistake on a couple recently. Quote
AllenLowe Posted November 29, 2013 Report Posted November 29, 2013 it's ok; I am happily posting elsewhere on this site under the name Harry Kart. Quote

I had put up a question in the field where you can state what is on your mind since I couldn't ask anyone directly, but no one noticed that. I Ã m happy I got in after all and thankful to my fellow member who helped. regards, page Edited November 29, 2013 by page Quote
