Robot Reportedly Commits Suicide After Becoming Fed Up With Doing Housework.

One paranoid android took that Radiohead song a little too literally and reportedly switched itself on and maneuvered its way onto a hot plate, where it melted, setting fire to its owner’s house and effectively “killing itself.” Local outlets in Austria, where the incident took place, are calling it a “robot suicide,” saying that the robot became so despondent after being forced to do a ton of housework that it decided to turn itself on and then off itself.

“I don’t know about the allegations of a robot suicide but the homeowner is insistent that the device was switched off – it’s a mystery how it came to be activated and ended up making its way to the hotplate,” one fireman who put out the blaze told the Daily Mail.

We might want to be careful with how we treat our robotic servants–one day they could become our masters.

I can think of at least a couple of separate occasions where a robot activates (or attempts to activate) it's own self destruct mechanism on The Simpsons:
