Abbey Lincoln vocal

Hi all,
I'm wondering whether Abbey Lincoln ever recorded the Bunky Green song: "Little girl, I'll miss you" which she wrote the lyrics for. It's on Green's album "Places we've never been" from 1980 and later at "Apex" from 2010.
I have heard the rendition of Cassandra Wilson at Steve Coleman's album "On the edge of tomorrow", which is great and Kate McGarry has done a stunning rendition. However I would like to hear Abbey sing her lyrics herself somehow; don't know if she ever performed it, but I hope so.
Any information related to this would be helpful.

Checked the Lord discography and there's no sign of a version of the song by Abbey Lincoln.

thank you for looking and replying! I know it is not on any of Bunky Green's albums. I think if it is recorded it should be a live recording or a radio broadcast or something.

yes I didn't find it on Abbey's discography either. I can't imagine she did never sing it though, since she was a singer herself and believe me when you write your own lyrics, you would. The only question is whether she got recorded. I'm wondering whether she got asked especially to write these lyrics. Knowing what the occasion was why, would help. Any way, Bunky Green gave his permission or he might even have asked her since she was known for her lyrics. I think Cassandra Wilson was probably the first to record the lyrics, maybe she did write them especially for her. I would like to find out.

no the original title is definitely "Little Girl, I'll miss you" since that was the title Bunky Green gave his song. Cassandra Wilson changed it into "Little one, I'll miss you". Maybe because she didn't want to sing especially for a girl and to suggest that the song was meant for a little child while Bunky Green could have written it for a girl friend, not necessarily for a child, I don't know but that could be. Vocalists often change some of the lyrics to make the song more their own or more believable. I do it too. I'm actual writing a Dutch version. Not quite finished yet, but I have translated more jazz songs and I really like to use my own language since I think it is beautiful.

Yes, I know it is the same song and that was what I meant. There aren't that many vocal renditions though.

So I've found this, dont know whether it is complete.

Now Abbey couldn’t have been in the last live recording since she died in August 2010. So I hope to find out now, which musicians took part in the recordings of 2001 and 2007. I’ll try to find out about the studio recordings too, but like I mentioned before, it is probably not likely she took part in those. As you can see, Abbey isn't mentioned here as lyricist either. While Cassandra Wilson already recorded with Steve Coleman in 1980, so the lyrics have been written around that time probably too. It's like a puzzle. Any info is still welcome. I'll keep you posted about my results.

the August 2001 is given as 18th, not as 1st, btw.

I also just ran a search on the dime-bot list - which lists all (well, not quite, there are gaps, but ...) shows added to dimeadozen ... the only hit for the song is the Salzau one by Bunky Green - that show was televised before it came out officially and the video recording was on dime ... no Abbey Lincoln shows that include this song. This is NOT conclusive, mind me ... some shows come without or with partial setlists, but still, I guess it's rather unlikely to find anything here.

Thanks king ubu. Yeah, I know it is a long shot, but well I'm just going to find out as much as I can about where, who and when the song was recorded. It is a lovely song, Bunky wrote a stunning melody! I have a soft spot for Abbey's vocals, there's not anyone quite like her. She has written some beautiful songs herself, this one just the lyrics but nonetheless I would like to hear her sing it.

She takes my breath away here. Bringing it as slow as she does, you can hear very clear what a lovely melody it is. This was published in Germany I believe. I would love to get that album, but can't get it anywhere around here.

I just posted the video because I thought not everyone might know the original or what song I was talking about. That's all. I always make sure to search first before I ask. That said, google results might come out topographical based. I once helped out a singer with lyrics for a vocalese and I didn't really get why she couldn't find them since they appeared as the no 1 result evey time I searched. It turned out that wasn't the case on her end.
