kh1958 Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 This arrived today and I'm listening now, Magic Sam at the Avant Garde June 22, 1968--Newly released on Delmark. With Big Mojo Elem on bass and Bob Richey on drums. It's by a wide margin the best quality live Magic Sam recording released to date. Recorded by Jim Charne, 18 at the time. Thank you very much--it sounds great. Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 Will have to get this, even though I prefer Magic with horns... Quote
kh1958 Posted November 20, 2013 Author Report Posted November 20, 2013 Actually, the recording date is 1968. Quote
Tom 1960 Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 (edited) Thanks for the tip on this. Sounds like a must have. Edited November 20, 2013 by Tom 1960 Quote
kh1958 Posted November 20, 2013 Author Report Posted November 20, 2013 Yes, while not a perfect recording, the detail of his guitar playing is captured more clearly here than on the studio recordings. Bass and drums are sufficiently audible and balanced with the guitar, and the vocals are mostly clearly captured. Quote
Tom in RI Posted November 28, 2013 Report Posted November 28, 2013 Sigh, hanging around here is so expensive. Quote
kh1958 Posted November 28, 2013 Author Report Posted November 28, 2013 You will be thanking Big Jim soon. Quote
Eric Posted November 28, 2013 Report Posted November 28, 2013 looks very cool ... thanks for the heads up Quote
king ubu Posted November 28, 2013 Report Posted November 28, 2013 Guess I'll want this, too. Whom can I send the bill? Quote
kh1958 Posted November 28, 2013 Author Report Posted November 28, 2013 You'll just have to bite the bullet and pay. Worth every penny and then some. Quote
