Profile Stars?

I sort of just noticed that each individual profile comes with a 5 star bar on the profile page. Some have one star or more, some none. Are these like the little stickers that football players get on their helmet from the Coach for a good play, or like military decorations for valor under Internet fire? Either way, I'm sure I am not worthy but I am curious (not like the movie though). What do they stand for and who awards them? Oh yeah, I notice that the Moderators also have their stars on a bar rank shown when they post. Is this the same as the profile stars?

I think you can cast your star vote somewhere for each (and every!) member, kinda like Down Beat, only no ad space is for sale.

First I noticed this. As a past Downbeat reader I guess we should consider only those posters with ratings of 4 stars and higher as worth reading. :-)

Well, the thing is, if you don't know the author, the stars are meaningless ... somebody's * may be my * * * * * - same applies to poster "rankings"

But I still don't get it. Maybe it's a carryover from some earlier version of the Board.
