Oh, I guess it was one of the late Riversides, that wasn't out long enough to get a rep before Riverside closed. And that OJC series is a limited edition (well, theoretically, though I'm not sure).

I see it's expensive at Amazon UK - 16 quid. And the Japanese edition is 32. Phew. Good to get it for $3.99.

I love this one, as well as the organ date he recorded at the time in California with Paul Bryant and Joe Pass. More relaxed than your usual Griffin record, but that's perhaps the reason I like it so much.

Which one is that Mike? Is there another one with Paul Bryant other than Grab This?

I recall this and Grab This being high order Griff, perhaps not on the level of Full House ( which I've long valued)

To me, there's hardly any other than high order Griff, really (okay, I don't know ALL his later records)! But still this one hasn't caught my attention as much as several others of his Riversides have.

@ Dan: Grab This is the one and only.

Gotcha. I was wondering if I hadn't realized that Griff is on one of the Paul Bryant-led dates that Fantasy/OJC never got around to issuing. I want to say its Clifford Scott or Red Holloway on those. I bet MG knows.

It's Plas Johnson - some of his best stuff, in my view.

Haven't you got them?

Something's happening - with Plas, Jules Broussard (as), Clarence 'Gatemouth' Brown (hca), Junius Simmons (g), Johnny Kirkwood (d)

Groove time - with Plas, Gene Edwards (g), Kirkwood (d)

BTW, Kirkwood is Perri Lee's son. You flogged me her LP with Eddie Chamblee a few years ago (many thanks still).

Glad you mentioned these - going to listen to 'em both now.

I know why I couldn't remember it's Plas on Something's Happening ... my copy was so beat to hell, I swear there are needle jumps that go straight over entire tenor sax solos.

A recent purchase when I visited Newbury Comics. Scooped this up for $3.99! I'm quite happy to have gotten ahold of this session. What do you guys think? An underrated date, IMO.

Only $3.99?? What a bargain! I've had this for years and like it a lot.

Glad to see someone who enjoyed this session,. Never claimed in my initial post this session could be compared to some of Johnny's better known releases. Just that if you happened to already be a fan, not to overlook this release. Just my thoughts.

I also enjoy this session and agree with your comments.
