Mister Jazzman Posted October 28, 2013 Report Posted October 28, 2013 First of all I want to say that I am a new addition to this forum, and therefore am sorry if this thread is not in it's correct section. Although I love all kinds of jazz, I am mainly attracted towards piano jazz. Since I don't purchase vinyls, but generally purchase CD re-issues, I was wondering whether some jazz experts/enthusiasts on this forum can suggest such CD re-issues. In order to give you a clearer idea, I want to find something along the lines of Dave Brubeck / Oscar Peterson. I already got the "Time-Out" CD re-issue but unfortunately did not get any more Dave Brubeck CD's. Can somebody please suggest any CD re-issues along those lines? Thanks Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted October 28, 2013 Report Posted October 28, 2013 Hi Mister Jazzman, and welcome. Pity I'm here first, because those two pianists aren't really up my street. Now, if you'd said Les McCann, Junior Mance or Ray Bryant... And if you'd said Gene Harris, Dan would be on the case. But there are plenty of Brubeck and Oscar fans knocking around here. MG Quote
king ubu Posted October 28, 2013 Report Posted October 28, 2013 Well, for Brubeck, this one comes to mind first: http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Columbia-Studio-Albums-Collection/dp/B0077PPQGO/ I'm still hoping they'll follow suit with a live box, too! As for Peterson ... his recorded legacy is huge. A few favourites: "At the Stratford Shakespearean Festival", "The Jazz Soul of Oscar Peterson/Affinity", "The London House Sessions", "Mellow Mood", "Tristeza on Piano", "Walking the Line", "Another Day", "Tracks", "Great Connection", "Satch and Josh" (w/Count Basie - there's five of them in total), "Oscar Peterson et Joe Pass à la Salle Pleyel" ... romualdo Posted October 28, 2013 Report Posted October 28, 2013 Welcome to the site The 7CD Mosaic set "Columbia Jazz Piano Moods Sessions" was an immediate thought http://web.archive.org/web/20070818030229/http://www.mosaicrecords.com/prodinfo.asp?number=199-MD-CD It's out of print but is currently available on ebay & Amazon - bit pricey at present but I have seen it go for significantly lower prices in the past http://www.ebay.com/itm/THE-COLUMBIA-JAZZ-PIANO-MOODS-SESSIONS-MOSAIC-7-CD-BOX-MD7-199-SEALED-CDs-OOP-/140974316815?pt=Music_CDs&hash=item20d2b95d0f Quote

Joe Posted October 29, 2013 Report Posted October 29, 2013 You'd probably enjoy these as well, and find them good entry points for artists with extensive discographies to explore: Finally, never enough Ellington solos or trios to my tastes; this one I find most indispensable: Quote

Mister Jazzman Posted October 29, 2013 Author Report Posted October 29, 2013 Thank you all so much for your suggestions. Have checked several of your suggestions and settled on a few to purchase. I greatly appreciate your help as I now have got to know about Jazz musicians that I either have never heard of or never got around to listening to. Thanks again Quote
