this makes me so very sad. I had just read an article on him which had a recent picture and talked about a stroke he had. but I believe he was still fairly active and getting around. I grew up in Boston with the Celtics of the '50s and will always remember him as the very likeable Champ he was.

I remember Bill Sharman and Bob Cousy in the backcourt for the Celtics, I still have vivid memories of a series of plays in a particular game that amazed me at the time. The memory still does amaze me.

Way before my time. How many can go from to another team's biggest rival and still be loved and respected by both team's fans?

How many things which are now standard did he bring to the game as a coach?

Just read he not only was drafted by the Brooklyn Dodgers he was called up and was in the dugout @ the Bobby Thompson HR game.
