Chiefs, Scouts, and Indians are fine with me -- for the reason you cite and as long as the accompanying team images and associated behavior (e.g. the Atlanta Braves' tomahawk chop) aren't racial caricatures. I remember a number of really offensive product names from my youth that no longer exist, and also slogans & images that have changed over time to reflect a less patronizing attitude. Given that the team is in DC, why not give them a name that's truly reflective of the nation's capital, like...the Washington Fuckups. I don't think anybody of any social or political persuasion would be offended by that these days, eh? In the meantime, the next time when in New Mexico, visit the Zuni Pueblo, maybe take the poll there. OTOH, the next time when in Oklahoma, take the poll of the Chickasaw tribe while they're counting the money from Winstar. I just want to know which group(s) and in what proportion(s) the WSJ poll was aimed towards to get that 90%, because I could get 90% the other way very easily. Needless to say, I am less than convinced by the results of anybody's opinion polls. Quote

I passed what appeared to be several public schools and was surprised to see references to what I guessed were the name of the sports teams of the schools which were "the Braves" or "Warriors" and the like... I do not remember seeing any references to "Redskins", but I was surprised at what I did see. But there have been complaints about the Atlanta Brave's name....but maybe it is an issue of we can call ourselves that, but you can't? I don't know. Quote

Probably.Seems to me the equivalent of Braves or Indians (the problem with the latter team being their mascot/logo who sort of looks Jewish to me).But the equivalent of Redskins would be The Miami Hebes if not the Miami Kikes.
