crisp Posted October 14, 2013 Report Posted October 14, 2013 Another of those budget boxes from European Concord/Universal has just been released. Nine discs, no track listing yet. Details here. Quote
David Ayers Posted October 14, 2013 Report Posted October 14, 2013 Good one. I assume this combines the two earlier boxes. I don't have those CD sets and by amazing coincidence I was just thinking about this before I opened organissimo.... Quote
crisp Posted October 14, 2013 Author Report Posted October 14, 2013 Which boxes are you thinking of, David? I was presuming it would just be old masterings of his Impulse albums repackaged -- although he appears of have done 7 albums on that label, not 9. Quote
mjazzg Posted October 14, 2013 Report Posted October 14, 2013 Not presuming to read David's mind but I shared his thought and was thinking of these two boxes http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mysteries-Impulse-1975-76-Keith-Jarrett/dp/B000003N8H http://www.vervemusicgroup.com/keithjarrett/releases/detail?id=9472 both of which I sold on and therefore wonder why I'm attracted by the new one.......ho hum Quote
sidewinder Posted October 14, 2013 Report Posted October 14, 2013 Assuming it's the whole shebang of the two older Impulse boxes (one of which became very elusive super-fast), then I'm going to be tempted at 30 euros.. Quote

I was presuming it would just be old masterings of his Impulse albums repackaged -- although he appears of have done 7 albums on that label, not 9. He did 8 albums. However, Fort Yawuh (live at the Village Vanguard) is expanded to 2 discs. Essential music. Quote
king ubu Posted October 14, 2013 Report Posted October 14, 2013 If it's indeed the two previous boxes (and not the silly "original album" stuff), it's great stuff! Some of my favourite Jarrett, hands down (which of course has something to do with the sidemen involved ...) Quote
Head Man Posted October 14, 2013 Report Posted October 14, 2013 (edited) Boy, it's been a few years since I gave those two boxsets a spin. They used to be my favourite Keith Jarrett and I almost played them to death when I first bought them. I'd be interested to find out whether there's any additional music on the new boxset and whether it's been remastered. I seem to recall that some of the music on my sets is not the highest of fi. king ubu Posted October 14, 2013 Report Posted October 14, 2013 Don't think any of these euro official pd releases were remastered ... nor had any new material. But at least they started including real booklets, it seems. Quote
Guy Berger Posted October 14, 2013 Report Posted October 14, 2013 I doubt there is any new music on the new box sets (though wasn't there a screwup where they cut off the beginning of "Rotation"?). But people craving more from this group should search for their unofficial recordings. Quote
crisp Posted October 14, 2013 Author Report Posted October 14, 2013 Thanks for the clarification. I'll certainly be getting this. Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted October 14, 2013 Report Posted October 14, 2013 (edited) I have the original sets - if you like Jarrett (or even Just the American band Jarrett) then this release is highly recommended. Side comment - ECM seem to have an expanded Bregenz/Munchen (3CD) due soon plus one where Keith plays the contents of his garden shed from 1986. Details here: http://www.jazzwisemagazine.com/news-mainmenu-139/70-2013/12856-jazz-breaking-news-two-keith-jarrett-gems-emerge-from-the-vaults- Edited October 14, 2013 by A Lark Ascending Quote
colinmce Posted October 15, 2013 Report Posted October 15, 2013 Some truly wonderful Charlie Haden on these sides. Quote
Carl Baugher Posted March 1, 2014 Report Posted March 1, 2014 I've been enjoying re-visiting these recordings very much. I second colinmce's comment. Charlie is great throughout. Quote
