Hardbopjazz Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 (edited) Who was the model on the cover Duke Pearson's "The Sweet Honey Bee"? Anyone know who she was? I've seen her before, but I have no idea who she was. Edited October 4, 2013 by Hardbopjazz Quote
jeffcrom Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 According to Nat Hentoff's liner notes, it's his then-fiance Betty. Quote

J.A.W. Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 (edited) Funny how the board software cuts off the thread title here: "Who was the model on the cover Pearson's The Sweet Ho ..." I saw that and laughed and said I have to fix it. One way to fix it is to use the correct album title, which is Sweet Honey Bee, without the article "The" Edited October 4, 2013 by J.A.W. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 Am I the only one who thinks the relative positioning of the two figures, the cropping, and just the overall composition of this cover is just a little less compelling than it could have been otherwise? I don't hate this cover, but it's always struck me as being a little bit weird. Quote
jazzbo Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 Personally I like it, features the sweet honey bee quite well. Good album also. Quote
mjzee Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 The photo is OK, but the typeface is definitely not Reid Miles (who didn't do the cover). It's the font, and the placement of the text on the cover, that makes it un-Blue Note. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 (edited) Horrible graphics and worse photo undoubtedly at the request of a valuable musician. Labels sometimes had to discard their "standards" to please an artist. Edited October 4, 2013 by Chuck Nessa Quote
JSngry Posted October 5, 2013 Report Posted October 5, 2013 For some weird reason it's always reminded me of this one But - have you noticed how the orange & pink (fuchsia?) is starting to make a comeback in clothing colorations? That's good news for the eye, imo. Quote
bertrand Posted October 5, 2013 Report Posted October 5, 2013 I wonder if Betty is still with us. Bertrand. Quote
