I am not a great lover of the ECM Sound but in Hong Kong, we do have ECM artists perfroming here from time to time. I love their album covers though and have a book on that topic which I treasured. The ECM :rarum Series seem to me the right time and place to explore & have an mini overview of the most important artists of ECM. Any comments.

Hi Cho.

Wow, that ECM 'sound' again.....How does that translate to a live setting? I've always thought that any idiosynracies that the recording engineer may harbour would be lost as soon as the band are exposed on stage.

As with all compilations I'm wary to invest, unless that is the recordings by a particular artist are VERY hard to find. I would much rather get the seperate albums. Especially in the case of ECM where they are all availabe and reasonably priced (at least in Europe).

One thing for sure though; buy any disc in the Rarum series and you're bound to be impressed by the talent and diversity of the sidemen.

Cheers, tonym.
