Black Saint and Sinner Lady: Analogue Prod. or Speakers Corner?

Has anyone compared the Analogue Productions 45rpm pressing to the Speakers Corner version?

I do not have the Speakers Corner version, I have the AP 45 rpm and a first pressing RVG cut. The AP reissue is clearer with better instrument separation. It is worth it if you don't own it on vinyl.

I don't own it on vinyl, I've actually never heard it all the way through. After having it recommended to me I listened to a bit of it on YouTube and it seems amazing. What little research I've done into Mingus suggests that this may be his best album.I rarely shell out $50 for the 45rpm, it has to be a real masterpiece. That being said, I don't want to waste the money on a CD or inferior vinyl if this record is of one those masterpieces.

I have the APO SACD and the Impulse digipak CD. The SACD is a clear upgrade from the Impulse digipak and sounds great. This is a fantastic album, definitely one of Mingus' best. I haven't heard the APO vinyl, but I would imagine that it is similar to the SACD.

Agreed, to my ears they are much better than the digipak versions from the 1990s which were mastered by Erick Labson. The APO hybrid SACDs were mastered by Kevin Gray.

how's the sound on the Impulse twofer which is currently out?

Borderline too loud for sensitive ears, I imagine. I have the Sonny Rollins twofer On Impulse!/There Will Never Be Another You. A good budget option. Not bad like the Coltrane Impulse! Originals of Crescent with all these horrible earsplitting peaks.

I have the Speakers Corner Mingus. Don't have and have never heard the AP 45. The Speakers Corners issue sounds fine, so I have no need to go for the 45. I also don't want to have to turn a record over every ten minutes. The last is probably just pure laziness on my part.

A few years ago I did a quick comparison between the APO hybrid SACD's CD layer and the 1990s digipak CD reissue that was mastered by Erick Labson, and to my ears the former swept the floor with the latter: it sounded much more musical, with a better tonality, not at all harsh, which was one of my problems with the Labson remaster. If the APO vinyl version (which I've never heard) sounds about the same, I can recommend it wholeheartedly, though I can imagine that having to turn the records every 10 minutes or so is a nuisance.

Perfect sound or not, BS&TSL spread across 4 sides is a terrible idea, and I couldn't possibly recommend that less.
