Spun Supernova. Very nice. Though I'll state that I prefer the RVG by a bit, it's meatier which helps this session.

I thought that we had the McMaster remaster only (out of japan).

No, there's a Japanese RVG edition. It's very good imo. TOCJ-7200.

I've listened to the Unity release. Sound is quite good. The alternates . . . as I remember them they're not as essential for me as others seem to think they are but then I'm not a HUGE fan of Unity.

I just listened to Free For All. The bonus track, an alternate of Free for All is OK, certainly not close to the original by any means but the Freddie Hubbard solo is ridiculous and to me worth the price of admission.

It's nice to see the Unity alternates finally see the light of day, I've always loved them.

I also received Hank Mobley "Workout" (bonus tracks are two takes of "Three Coins in the Fountain") and Stanley Turrentine "Hustlin'" (bonus track is an alternate take of "Trouble (No. 2)") which I haven't gotten to yet.

Thanks for the heads up on the "Workout". It's not easy to keep up with the bonus track issues.

Yes, thanks. The RVG of Workout contained only one alternate of Three Coins, the Turrentine none, I believe.

Does anyone know what the extra title on Jimmy Smith's "Midnight Special +1" is

The RVG of this didn't contain extra material - I know the titles were from two sessions that also yielded the LP "Back At The Chicken Shack"

On The Sunny Side Of The Street.

Same as Back at the Chicken Shack RVG?

many thanks

looks like I'll give this a miss as I have the "Back At The Chicken Shack" RVG plus the recent "awful cover" LT series "On The Sunny Side" - don't need it a third time

Tom Evered once confirmed that the master tapes were lost. Judging from what I hear, I think the previous "Blue Note Works" TOCJ reissue was a vinyl transfer too, albeit better done than the US Rare Grooves edition.

I'll agree that the Blue Note Works cd sounds like a needle-drop. I'd be interested in the opinions of others on this 75th Anniversary edition. Sounds like it is tape sourced to me, regardless I think it sounds great.

Thanks for posting that list. While I am certainly not going to "do" Blue Note all over again, it is hard to resist dabbling in these SHMs. If only they had had these when I was growing up ;).

Not sure which of these have new extra tracks. Someone will work it out though. The Three Sounds releases evidently do, though a lot of Sounds tracks were anthologised in different ways before so these copious-seeming extras may be repeats, and in any case they would be a pretty low priority. Blues in Trinity extras? Non on my JRVG, but I don't have the Mosaic. True Blue? Can't remember. Anything else?

Weirdly, no Jimmy Smith, but the Pattons are promising sound-wise. Organ comes off well in these SHMs.
