sonnymax Posted September 11, 2013 Report Posted September 11, 2013 Hometown hero George Garzone has released a big band recording featuring music students from Monash University. It features Garzone's original compositions and a few standards, arranged by Berklee and Buddy Rich alumni Greg Hopkins. As usual, Garzone's soloing is masterful, and it's nice to hear him in this kind of setting. The CD issue is rather expensive, but downloads at Amazon and iTunes are very reasonable. Enjoy. Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted September 11, 2013 Report Posted September 11, 2013 There's also a Hermeto Pascoal disc from the same source. Largish band of Australian musicians. They are available on e-music. Quote
JSngry Posted September 12, 2013 Report Posted September 12, 2013 Garzone's a kick! What kind of arrangements are we talking here? Quote
sonnymax Posted September 12, 2013 Author Report Posted September 12, 2013 Not sure how to answer your question, but give a listen and decide for yourself: George Garzone - The Monash Sessions Quote
JSngry Posted September 12, 2013 Report Posted September 12, 2013 Sounds like the Garzone originals are small group, the standards big band. Correct? Quote
sonnymax Posted September 12, 2013 Author Report Posted September 12, 2013 Tracks 1-4 feature the Monash University Big Band. Tracks 5-7 feature one of the University's jazz ensembles, while tracks 8 & 9 feature their other jazz ensemble. The remaining tracks feature the school's Small World Music Ensemble. Quote
