J.A.W. Posted September 12, 2013 Report Posted September 12, 2013 Fortunately I am not interested in Paul McCartney's music - on the contrary - so I can happily ignore those threads, as well as most rock-related threads, including the many, many Beatles topics Quote
jazzbo Posted September 13, 2013 Report Posted September 13, 2013 I've got Beatles albums, hard to be a teenager in the later 'sixties and not. But I'm not a big Beatles fan. And Paul was my least favorite of the four. Means I can skip a lot of threads! Quote
ArtSalt Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 Yo I was considering buying the John Coltrane 45rpm Analogue Productions "Coltrane" until I found this review. Is it really as bad as this guy claims? He found the 45rpm "A Love Supreme" to be superb, but thought that this one was awful: http://robertmusic.blogspot.com/2009/10/more-thoughts-on-analogue-productions.html#!/2009/10/more-thoughts-on-analogue-productions.html I actually like those feisty opinionated blogs, even if I don't agree with them, as it gives you something to rally against. The Magnificent Goldberg Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 45rpm 12"s are something I remember from the punk/post-punk/indie era, but I don't think I have any that are longer than about 8 or 9 minutes a side (and a lot of those sound great). I think 14 minutes would be pushing it. I've got Steve 'Silk' Hurley's 'Jack your body' on a 12" 45 and I think it's about 15 minute per side (2 cuts per side, different mixes) but there are no timings on my copy (because it's a UK edition and UK record labels have always been wary of the Trades Descriptions Act and almost never put timings on records in case some bastard sues - because the costs of defending a trivial case wouldn't be trivial for a record company), and I'm just going by memories of 1985. mjzee Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 I always wondered why UK releases didn't show timings. Interesting. Quote

MG The TDAct has been replaced by the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 which says much the same thing - in particular that a criminal offence may be committed by the misdescription. This means no-one can 'sue' and prosecution is by the local authority. These days, in the era of local government cutbacks, I suspect they have better things to do.
