king ubu Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 Very cool! Will try and grab one before it's gone (sometimes it's impossible to find the Wire here) Quote

mjazzg Posted September 28, 2013 Report Posted September 28, 2013 Chapter Two is a beautiful piece of work indeed. Quote
papsrus Posted November 12, 2013 Report Posted November 12, 2013 Echo the sentiments here regarding this recording. Thoughtful, pretty emotional, beautiful melodies, the music is almost fragile in a way, and obviously wrapped in a deep historic sensibility -- a story told. A joy to listen to. I do look forward to future volumes. This one is so different, much lighter, than the first. While I've always enjoyed Roberts' earlier stuff -- what I've heard anyways (Sticks and Stones, Chicago Project) -- this project, and this release in particular, really elevates her to a whole new level. king ubu Posted November 12, 2013 Report Posted November 12, 2013 To me it's a bit hard to say ... as with Chapter One, the live memory lingers so strongly still in my head, the record sounds a bit "cute" by comparison. Okay, it's much denser than the concerts (the one I was at and the ones recorded by European radio stations or fans), much shorter - and I kind of like that idea. But on the other hand, it feels a bit - just a bit, don't get me wrong! - as if they got rid of all the "jazz" in the production. It's so darn condensed it's almost a "pop" record - and I sure enjoyed the lengthier blowing and improvised parts in the live shows! Anyway, with such wonderful concerts, a record can hardly ever compete - Quote
