Yes, it's sad that there seem to be so few newcomers to early 20th century jazz. The Chu Berry is a fantastic set.

There's some hope of newcomers to early jazz through the burgeoning swing dance communities and school jazz music programs. I'm trying share the joys, but it's hard to persuade younger folks the value of an [expensive] nicely done box set when they can download [poor] versions of the same tracks for virtually nothing.

Not a big surprise that this one times out long before it would have actually sold out ... too bad this seems to happen so often in recent years!

But. . . the numbers aren't sequential . . . though I guess you're right meaning this is timing out rather than selling out.

If it's timing out, this is a funny time for it, as it was issued in the summer of 2007 - seems very odd to license material as old as ths for six and a half years

Well I wouldn't know for sure, but with sets going on backorder and then being re-pressed again, I assume the fact that sets numbered in the 2000 range being sold at the end of the run means that there haven't been 5000 sets manufactured.

Seems a fairly logical thought to me ;)

It really seems almost yesterday that this was announced and I picked it up after it had been out maybe a year. :( *

My understanding is that much of the material does time out at about 7 years. Obviously doesn't apply to the Mobley and a few other sets.

* Sad that time is just flying by; not a good sign...

No clue about timing out either ... might just not be feasible to manufacture another 1000 or so if it sells too slowly (2000 in 6 years ... including all the enthusiast pre-and early orders ... do another 1000 when the license runs 10 years and sales have slowed down?)

The Chu Berry set is one of my favourites, particularly the Cab Calloway stuff.

According to my sources, the swing era Mosaic sets sell well in the US, but very little in Europe. I actually thought it would be the opposite.
