My first thought is that he expected to be killed by fellow prisoners, so decided to do it first.

Do you think that is a reasonable guess, or do you think I'm all wrong?

As I understand it he was held in seclusion. Unless that would have changed, my guess is he did not fancy a lifetime of solitary lockup due to the nature of his crime.

From the BBC: A spokeswoman for the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, JoEllen Smith, said: "He was housed in protective custody which means he was in a cell by himself and rounds are required every 30 minutes at staggered intervals."

How did this happen? Somehow he was helped as . . . there are precautions for this sort of thing.

Well, at least this may shorten the years we may be subjected to this story over and over on Cleveland news.

And nobody wept. I'm against capitol punishment. His life sentence + 1000 years would have been just punishment for Castro to have spent the rest of his natural life alone with his thoughts. But, he apparently chose to go early and who are we to deny him?

No, because the son and his mother were also victims of the father's abuse. Because the son has publicly expressed his feelings of outrage and sympathy for the women who were held hostage and raped. Because Chuck is showing compassion rather than merely venting scorn.
