Listening now to the original US CD, if you don't have it since it is being reissued in Japan, highly recommended. I don't plan on upgrading but hope they don't make the reissue too loud.

Is this the trio record with Kenny Burrell from the 90s? I've always liked the combination of Smith and Burrell, and this record is one of the best--on a par, if not better than, the 60's records with Stanley Turrnetine. Nothing against Mr. T., but I like hearing Kenny receiving plenty of limelight.

Indeed it is, JOS, Burrell and Jimmie Smith on drums. I think this is one of JOS' best from later in his career too. For some reason, they aren't reissuing the second album, just the first. It'd be nice to have a complete sessions set from this gig.

The Master also had a Vol 2, issued only in Japan on Toshiba EMI on the Somethin'else label, done at the same 2 gigs in Osaka.

Both are damn good!

The whole two CDs won't fit on one CD. So what's on the new reissue?

I think "The Master II" was also issue in the U.S. by Blue Note. I have this one but not the first volume.
