jmjk Posted August 18, 2013 Report Posted August 18, 2013 Does anyone remember the author and title of a book with a photo of Jackie McLean on the dust jacket? It was the same photo as the A Fickle Sonance album cover and it was published around 2001-2002. As I recall, it wasn't a book on jazz, but rather, maybe something sociological? Quote
jmjk Posted August 18, 2013 Author Report Posted August 18, 2013 I think that's it. Thanks, Marcelo. Turns out maybe it IS jazz-related. Quote
sidewinder Posted August 18, 2013 Report Posted August 18, 2013 Derek Ansel's bio also uses the photo - much later published book though. Quote
bertrand Posted August 18, 2013 Report Posted August 18, 2013 It's a shame Ansell didn't try to interview anyone - I could have hooked him up with Freddie Redd and Butch Warren. Bertrand. Quote
Bluesnik Posted August 18, 2013 Report Posted August 18, 2013 I've got that book and it's a good read. And it IS jazz related, though also very strongly biased towards esthetics and other things. Quote
sidewinder Posted August 19, 2013 Report Posted August 19, 2013 It's a shame Ansell didn't try to interview anyone - I could have hooked him up with Freddie Redd and Butch Warren. Bertrand. Yep, one of the major weaknesses of that book. Quote
Gheorghe Posted August 23, 2013 Report Posted August 23, 2013 It's a shame Ansell didn't try to interview anyone - I could have hooked him up with Freddie Redd and Butch Warren. Bertrand. yeah , thought the same when I read that book. I was a bit disappointed. Like the Hank Mobley book from about the same time. Quote
brownie Posted August 23, 2013 Report Posted August 23, 2013 Incidentally, McLean was also on the cover of the French book 'New Orleans sur Seine' Photo taken by Chenz when McLean played at the Chat Qui Peche club in Paris in May 1961 (with Jean-François Jenny Clark and Aldo Romano! Quote
