Book with Jackie Mac on the cover?

Does anyone remember the author and title of a book with a photo of Jackie McLean on the dust jacket? It was the same photo as the A Fickle Sonance album cover and it was published around 2001-2002. As I recall, it wasn't a book on jazz, but rather, maybe something sociological?

Derek Ansel's bio also uses the photo - much later published book though.

I've got that book and it's a good read. And it IS jazz related, though also very strongly biased towards esthetics and other things.

Yep, one of the major weaknesses of that book.

yeah , thought the same when I read that book. I was a bit disappointed. Like the Hank Mobley book from about the same time.

Incidentally, McLean was also on the cover of the French book 'New Orleans sur Seine'
