gmonahan Posted November 17, 2013 Report Posted November 17, 2013 The two Max Bennett discs have some primo Carl Fontana on them. A real discovery for me. gregmo Quote
jlhoots Posted November 17, 2013 Report Posted November 17, 2013 Oh no! I've bought way too many of these and now there's more? "You think you're out & they pull you back in." Quote

romualdo Posted December 12, 2013 Author Report Posted December 12, 2013 (edited) the next batch of Japanese Bethlehems were released yesterday (Dec 11) & already a number are OOP on the CD Japan site (Shavers/Sullivan, Sachs, Jonah Jones, Socolow, Mann - Flamingo) hopefully they should all be available via Dusty Groove (listed but not yet available) Edited December 12, 2013 by romualdo Quote
bakeostrin Posted December 16, 2013 Report Posted December 16, 2013 Thanks for this update. Does anyone know whether: (1) The two Joe Derise reissues from Japan contain material that differs from the 20 (or so) track US reissue of two albums on 1 CD? (2) The Ruby Braff CD's contain material that was not on either: "Best of Braff" (US reissue) or "Ruby Braff Omnibus" (earlier Japanese reissue)? thanks in advance Quote
jazzbo Posted December 16, 2013 Report Posted December 16, 2013 (edited) I ordered a bunch of these from Dusty Groove, they emailed me that they had arrived on Friday. Edited December 16, 2013 by jazzbo Quote
jlhoots Posted December 16, 2013 Report Posted December 16, 2013 I ordered a bunch of these from Dusty Groove, they emailed me that they had arrived on Friday. I tried immediately when they notified me (to get the 2 Stu Williamson albums), but they were both already sold out. I said "screw this" & got them elsewhere. Quote
jazzbo Posted December 16, 2013 Report Posted December 16, 2013 I may have beat you to them Larry, sorry. . . . I spent too much but I got all the ones I wanted. Quote
bakeostrin Posted December 16, 2013 Report Posted December 16, 2013 How many of these new ones have bonus cuts; Stu Williamsons are nice, but were already reissued in Japan TOCJ (bought one of them on this forum years ago from J.A.W.--thanks again). Quote
jazzbo Posted December 16, 2013 Report Posted December 16, 2013 Very few. The Waldron has both mono and stereo. There are a few others but for the most part these are straight lp or 10" reissues. Quote
etherbored Posted December 16, 2013 Report Posted December 16, 2013 Is there a list somewhere of what's available in Japan? http://diskunion.net/jazz/ct/search?q=BETHLEHEM131211&m=11&type=3 Quote
erwbol Posted December 16, 2013 Report Posted December 16, 2013 I registered at hmv.co.jp and the site would not let me place an order. I got stuck at the first stage, selecting a shipping address. Could it be the CDSOL-XXXX item I selected could not be shipped to my country of residence? I'm a bit puzzled and have already deleted the account I created earlier today. Quote
David Ayers Posted December 16, 2013 Report Posted December 16, 2013 Don't know - I go there for information but rarely for orders.... Quote
etherbored Posted December 16, 2013 Report Posted December 16, 2013 very strange; hmv (jp) doesn't seem to ship to netherlands... Quote
David Ayers Posted December 17, 2013 Report Posted December 17, 2013 Not at all? Really? Hm. But they let you create an account! Quote
etherbored Posted December 17, 2013 Report Posted December 17, 2013 maybe i missed it, but tell me if you see netherlands on this page of countries shipped to: http://www.hmv.co.jp/help/006000008/ Quote

erwbol Posted December 17, 2013 Report Posted December 17, 2013 (edited) I tried to place another order without registration this time and after entering my details it sent me back to their home page instead of taking me to the second step. Perhaps it's my browser, Chrome. Edit: Same shit with Safari. Edited December 17, 2013 by erwbol Quote
etherbored Posted December 17, 2013 Report Posted December 17, 2013 i don't see why you need some big box store like hmv, anyway. get creative and find another shop owner willing to do business overseas. they're out there. Quote

erwbol Posted January 8, 2014 Report Posted January 8, 2014 (edited) Bethlehem has been low on my radar until now. I only had the Herbie Nichols album (1994 CD). The Mingus albums I'd ignored so far. Recently I got myself the Japanese remasters of Mal Waldron's Left Alone, Mingus' East Coasting, and Nichols' Love, Gloom, Cash, Love. Now I'm wondering if there are any other worthwhile albums or even minor classics being reissued I'm not aware of. Any recommendations? Edited January 8, 2014 by erwbol Quote
