GA Russell Posted August 15, 2013 Report Posted August 15, 2013 Here is a video of Humpy Wheeler discussing what he feels has gone wrong with NASCAR. I particularly agree with his view that people want to watch a race, not a points race. http://www.foxcarolina.com/story/23127646/humpy-wheeler-on-nascar-weve-messed-it-up-got-too-fancy NASCAR's TV ratings have fallen 32% since 2005. http://www.bizjournals.com/charlotte/print-edition/2013/08/09/nascar-adapts-to-the-new-normal.html?page=all Quote
Scott Dolan Posted August 15, 2013 Report Posted August 15, 2013 One of the biggest reasons for the downfall was the slow and incredibly boring Car of the Future. But, he does make some very good points. It's too much like watching a video game, too. Quote

Yeah, the stands have looked nearly half empty at some venues. Bristol is pretty much the heart and soul of the sport, and there have been large swaths of the stands there completely empty. Quote

First off....great to see you're back to posting....and keep posting the way you did. Fox is now trying to compete with ESPN...they threw obscene money @ NASCAR. As in, $8.2 billion over 10 years & an 46% increase over the last deal NASCAR had. Edited August 15, 2013 by Blue Train Quote

.:.impossible Posted August 16, 2013 Report Posted August 16, 2013 Oh please! It is a privilege to drive an oval at 200 mph. Do you not think you have that skill set? Quote
Scott Dolan Posted August 16, 2013 Report Posted August 16, 2013 Inches away from 42 other cars? No, very few people do. You go right ahead and make believe you've got the skills, or even the balls to be able to do this. I could use a good laugh today. Quote
Scott Dolan Posted August 16, 2013 Report Posted August 16, 2013 (edited) Hell, most people don't possess the stamina to do that at 200mph for 3+ hours. I know I sure as hell don't, and I'm in excellent physical condition. Nor have they ever even gone 200mph to begin with. But I love how easily they dismiss doing so! GA Russell Posted August 17, 2013 Author Report Posted August 17, 2013 Here is yesterday's Sporting News article about NASCAR's new television contract. I note that it says that the TV ratings have declined 42%. http://www.sportingnews.com/nascar/story/2013-08-15/nascar-tv-coverage-network-contract-fox-sports-1-nbc-deal-ratings Quote
Scott Dolan Posted August 17, 2013 Report Posted August 17, 2013 Actually, it said 47% in that article. Quote
