jazztrain Posted August 11, 2013 Report Posted August 11, 2013 Previously discussed a bit here: Many years ago, Concord had a promotion in which they asked about recommendations for reissues. I remember suggesting some of the Kamuca albums. Never happened. I don't know who currently owns the masters, but I would like to see reissues of the three Richie Kamuca albums Concord released in the '70s: Richie, Drop Me Off In Harlem & Charlie. Quote
jazzbo Posted August 21, 2013 Report Posted August 21, 2013 I like the Sarah. . . and the Tarantino mastering sounds pretty darned good. A review: http://blogcritics.org/music-review-sarah-vaughan-sophisticated-lady-the-duke-ellington-songbook-collection/ Quote

Wasn't the answer they were looking for, I guess. Maybe "Richie Kamuca Plays for Lovers" would have had a shot with their catalog department. Quote

jazzbo Posted August 21, 2013 Report Posted August 21, 2013 (edited) Track list for the new reissue can be found here: Amazon Thanks for this. It looks like they're all alternate takes. I'll have to think hard about this one. gregmo Not really alternate takes, previously unreleased alternate versions. Different arranger, session, and personnel. Edited August 21, 2013 by jazzbo Quote
CJ Shearn Posted August 21, 2013 Report Posted August 21, 2013 Were there pre OJC CD issues of some of the Montreux '77 titles, such as here? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Live-Montreux-77-Count-Basie-Big-Band-Pablo-/130972559558?pt=Music_CDs&hash=item1e7e92a8c6 I thought the OJC's were the first issued on CD. king ubu Posted September 25, 2013 Report Posted September 25, 2013 Pre-ordered three of them a few days ago and just received mails telling me the estimated delivery date was postponed into early January ... Quote
king ubu Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 Anyone has any idea what's going on with these? I've probably received ten re-scheduled delivery dates ... and funny enough I already DID get the Ellington disc (the prev. unissued track is rough around the edges but nice), that by now again is only to be released in late January:http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00E4V08KS/ Quote
Bol Posted November 28, 2013 Report Posted November 28, 2013 I wish there would be a Zoot Sims Pablo box set -- like the Dexter Gordon set put out by Concord some years back. Some of the CDs sound a bit flat. Many of my favorite sax players sound a bit too sentimental in their later years. Zoot Sims seems to be an exception, and his Pablo recordings are some of his best. king ubu Posted November 28, 2013 Report Posted November 28, 2013 Oh, I'd love that idea! Even if it was just an italian "Complete Sims Pablo Albums" box - it's not PD yet, but I guess the existing remasterings would be fine, so not much work to be done (and they did Lee Konitz Milestone, too - not PD either). crisp Posted November 30, 2013 Author Report Posted November 30, 2013 Ah, thanks. That came up in a search I did but I thought it was from the pre-Concord OJC era. I'll add it to the list Quote
