Bol Posted July 12, 2013 Report Posted July 12, 2013 What do people think about this set, and what would be a reasonable price to pay for it? Thanks in advance. Quote
jazzbo Posted July 12, 2013 Report Posted July 12, 2013 Hi Kevin, I think it's a very nice set, there are some pianists here that were new to me at the time and the music is very nice. As is the sound. Nothing here is as essential as say the Lester Young, or Basie or Ellington sets, I wouldn't pay a fortune for it. But if you love piano music it has some very enjoyable sessions. J.A.W. Posted July 12, 2013 Report Posted July 12, 2013 Enjoyable indeed, but nothing more. I found it rather "samey". Not worth a fortune. Quote
kh1958 Posted July 12, 2013 Report Posted July 12, 2013 It was worth the original sale price, but not a premium over that. Quote
Bol Posted July 12, 2013 Author Report Posted July 12, 2013 Thanks, guys. I just purchased a "like new" set on Amazon for $125, including shipping. That seems like as close to the original sale price as I'm likely to get. I've been really getting into 1950's piano trios lately. Thanks again. Quote
Bol Posted July 23, 2013 Author Report Posted July 23, 2013 Just got this set in the mail and am listening to the Ralph Sutton tracks. George Wettling on drums! He's da man! If the rest of the set is like this, I am a very happy guy! Quote
colinmce Posted July 23, 2013 Report Posted July 23, 2013 If you don't know the Ahmad Jamal material from the standalone disc on Legacy, you're really in for something. Quote
Bol Posted July 23, 2013 Author Report Posted July 23, 2013 (edited) If you don't know the Ahmad Jamal material from the standalone disc on Legacy, you're really in for something. I do know that one, and yes it is a great one. Thanks. Bill Clifton, whom I had never heard about before, is an amazing pianist. Edited July 23, 2013 by Bol Quote
