Happy 85th Birthday, Richard Wyands!

I haven't heard any of his leader dates, but I'm always impressed by the elegance and clarity of his playing when I hear one of his sideman appearances. Here's wishing him a happy birthday.

Of course, there are many more Wyands dates as both leader and sideman. Here's one of his sideman dates I especially enjoy.

I'll second both recommendations. Let's not forget his fine contributions to Gigi Gryce's early 60's releases. All worth owning, IMO.

Happy Birthday! Always liked his playing, a solid, reliable and always gratifying soloist, from early on in his career. The earliest I know are some Cal Tjader sessions in California on Savoy and Fantasy.

I almost missed this. I've worked with Richard and he is not only an exemplar of taste, listening, and swing but a gentleman all the way. To one of the best accompanists in the business and a great soloist IMO happy 85th, Richard.
