Guy Berger Posted June 23, 2013 Report Posted June 23, 2013 Lee Konitz + Brad Mehldau Trio - Brad Mehdau Quote
CJ Shearn Posted June 23, 2013 Report Posted June 23, 2013 Strange cover for a High Note release! Like a Blue Note LT cover with ECM style text. Quote
CraigP Posted June 23, 2013 Report Posted June 23, 2013 High note ruins all their covers with a logo about twice the size it needs to be. Quote
Larry Kart Posted June 23, 2013 Report Posted June 23, 2013 Looks promising. Minus Mehldau is a likely big plus IMO. Quote
Clunky Posted June 23, 2013 Report Posted June 23, 2013 Iverson is a fine pianist. Perhaps overly influenced by European classical tradition. There are times I just want a bit less fuss with Bach figures and rather a more bluesier approach. I've have thought he'd be a natural with Konitz ( have they recorded before?). My main concern would be whether Konitz still has the chops to play medium tempo numbers still. My guess is Konitz will have masses of breathing space and will frequently drop out but I'll be getting this whatever. Quote

xybert Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 I've had a couple of listens to this and i'm really enjoying it. I quite like The Bad Plus, but i've kind of seen Iverson as being the slightly weak link, for whatever reason. I guess it's because they're quite a compositionally oriented group, and i tend to find his compositions less enjoyable than those of Dave King and particularly Reid Anderson. Anyway, i'm really enjoying hearing him outside of the TBP, hearing him in a new light here. Not that his playing here is going to set the world on fire or anything but just a personal observation. I've really been digging recent Konitz (highly enjoyed Enfants Terribles... sorry if i'm losing you here, probably already lost you at The Bad Plus) and this is another fine outing for him in my opinion. Grenadier and Rossy are in fine form, too. Quote
Head Man Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 I seem to recall that I downloaded a few Highnote releases from somewhere (legally!) some time ago but looking at the Highnote website (which is a mess) I can't even find details of this release on it. Does anyone know of a legal site where I can download this? Quote
