I know that this has been covered before, but it has been awhile and I was curious whether Blue Note under their current grand poobah, Don Was, has any plans

to re-issue ANY previously unreleased BN material from 60s or 70s? It has been forever since we have had anything new. I'm sure Cuscuna knows if there is still any material out there in the vaults that would make financial sense to release.

Apparently I am mourning the "official" passing of the period where we could anticipate any new releases.

Time to seal the casket for good? I'm afraid I know the answer, but was curious if it truly is the end...

A definitive answer is appreciated-and then I can possibly consider my collection complete as it ever will be...

What's the state of EMI anyway? Whom do they belong to, and do those have any interest in releasing any jazz at all?

In classical, they seem to run their new productions mainly via Virgin Classics, but EMI itself seems to have mostly turned into a reissues operation. Wish it were at least that in jazz, but it's rather totally quantité négligeable there, it seems (no matter if Was or not).

I guess I can gladly book that under "superfluous" ... no need to re-buy stuff again and again, I'd rather see the few remaining rarities out and around. And maybe - despite Cuscuna's reluctancy - the odd unissued/canned session, too.

For someone who got into jazz around 10 years ago, there was no better introduction to the history of modern jazz than the RVG titles that were released from the late 1990s through the end of the last decade. I discovered SO MUCH music through that series, along with the BN Conn releases. Maybe the well is dry anyways, but it's a shame that reissue programs like that are dead.
