Chalupa Posted June 12, 2013 Report Posted June 12, 2013 He had an inspirational life. Read about it here. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/06/10/business/mott-green-47-dies-founded-grenada-chocolate.html?pagewanted=all Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted June 12, 2013 Report Posted June 12, 2013 He must have been a very empathetic individual. I'm sorry for your loss. Quote
Quincy Posted June 12, 2013 Report Posted June 12, 2013 Sorry about the loss of your friend - that's quite a life. As I was reading it there something about him that seemed familiar, and once Eugene was mentioned I remembered. Here's a link to an article from 2000 that was in our local paper. http://grenadachocolate.com/RGarticle.html Quote
Chalupa Posted June 12, 2013 Author Report Posted June 12, 2013 Thanks for that story Quincy. I wonder where they got "Mark" from?? Quote

JSngry Posted June 12, 2013 Report Posted June 12, 2013 Anybody who inspires the phrase "a Free-Spirited Chocolatier" is somebody I'd have felt blessed to have known. Condolences. Quote
Quincy Posted June 12, 2013 Report Posted June 12, 2013 Thanks for that story Quincy. I wonder where they got "Mark" from?? I'm not sure, perhaps due to his "foreign" accent for an Oregon reporter she just assumed he said his r's funny. I noticed the NY Times misspelled the last name of the partner who died previously by dropping the "e" in his last name. Quote
Jerry_L Posted June 12, 2013 Report Posted June 12, 2013 (edited) He was obviously an energetic and intelligent guy who contributed much more than his share to the human race. Quite a loss for Grenada, especially. He must have really loved chocolate! Edited June 12, 2013 by Jerry_L Quote

Chalupa Posted June 12, 2013 Author Report Posted June 12, 2013 What a life! I would love to see the documentary. How did you know him? We were housemates the year that he dropped out of school. It was the beginning of an intense transition period for him - a metamorphosis from Ivy leaguer to complete societal dropout. The change from "David" to "Moth/Mott" made it very difficult to live/be friends w/ him sometimes. Despite all that I still think of Mott as a great guy and a good friend. He was incredibly brilliant and was VERY passionate about social & environmental justice. I know this is going to sound like a cliche but, I truly believe he was someone that would give you the shirt off his back without any thought of getting anything in return. Quote
paul secor Posted June 13, 2013 Report Posted June 13, 2013 Sounds as if he had a very interesting and good life. I'm sorry for your loss. Quote
