Milestones Posted June 7, 2013 Report Posted June 7, 2013 (edited) What's up with McCoy Tyner these days? He apparently still plays concerts, but there have been no recordings for 4 or 5 years. He is certainly a legend, and I would like to keep up on his work. Tyner is certainly an artist who can sound great in any format: solo, trio, quartet, quintet, mid-size group, big band. CJ Shearn Posted June 7, 2013 Report Posted June 7, 2013 His label was a subsidiary of Half Note Records, and I don't believe they are still operating. Quote
Justin V Posted June 8, 2013 Report Posted June 8, 2013 His label was a subsidiary of Half Note Records, and I don't believe they are still operating. Half Note released Enfant Terribles by Lee Konitz, Bill Frisell, Gary Peacock and Joey Baron in September. Although it was originally slated for release earlier this year, Half Note is also releasing a Randy Brecker album in October. Quote
CJ Shearn Posted June 8, 2013 Report Posted June 8, 2013 Thank you Justin! That's right, they did release Konitz Peacock and Baron. The few releases I have of them like Elvin Jones and Tain Watts (which I still maintain nearly 9 years after the recording/release has the best live Kenny Garrett on record) are nice. Quote
mjzee Posted June 8, 2013 Report Posted June 8, 2013 I was interested in hearing the Tyner "Guitar" record. Quote
Milestones Posted June 8, 2013 Author Report Posted June 8, 2013 "Guitars" is a fine record. A good assortment of guitarists (along with Bela Fleck on banjo). Perhaps most memorable is a scorching "Mr. P.C." with Scofield. Quote
CJ Shearn Posted June 8, 2013 Report Posted June 8, 2013 I enjoyed the DVD in that set more than the album, I sold that one. I remember "P.C." being pretty hot on that tho, and the free improvs with Ribot working well. Quote
robertoart Posted June 9, 2013 Report Posted June 9, 2013 Mr PC is good, and Scofield plays some nice lines. But I wouldn't think it's anything beyond 'latter day excellent'. Quote
