Late Posted June 5, 2013 Report Posted June 5, 2013 These two titles have recently been reissued by the Japanese Shout! label (in the mini-LP format). Fans of either record? Quote
JSngry Posted June 5, 2013 Report Posted June 5, 2013 Found them a little shallow in their time. Pretty much done a complete 175 on them with the passage of time. I didn't really "get" the "need" for music like this then, but now, hell, it seems more than logical now, it seems inevitable. Certainly a little "behind the curve" relative to the most leading curves of their time, but you know....these motherfuckers play their asses off and ain't holding nothing back while so doing. They were where they were, and they carpe-diemed like some big dogs while there. So, yes, a fan of both. Quote
mikeweil Posted June 5, 2013 Report Posted June 5, 2013 I already liked them back then, liked the rawness of the music, as opposed to the polish of so many other fusion bands. Even the sound is raw - the first attempts in Gene Perla's Red Gate Studios. Jan Hammer, Gene Perla, and Don Alias lay down a groove nobody plays anymore. I still have the LPs, even the promo single Perla gave me at one of their gigs at a local club. I miss bands like that .... You can get them all direcctly from Perla's label, btw: http://www.pmrecords.org/ Quote

Utevsky Posted June 8, 2013 Report Posted June 8, 2013 The LP of "Some Shapes" has been in my collection for many years. I really enjoyed it, but haven't heard it in years. Quote
