Jim Alfredson Posted November 20, 2013 Author Report Posted November 20, 2013 We did Soul Woman but it just wasn't happening for some reason. Strange because both Ralph and I have been playing that song for years and years. Latona will be in the bonus tracks.
king ubu Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 Enjoying the disc a whole lot, Jim! Quality job!
Stefan Wood Posted November 26, 2013 Report Posted November 26, 2013 Downloaded the bonus flac files. Sound skips. So I will try again....
Jim Alfredson Posted November 26, 2013 Author Report Posted November 26, 2013 Sound skips on all the tracks?
Jim Alfredson Posted November 26, 2013 Author Report Posted November 26, 2013 I just downloaded the file from the link I sent and decoded and I don't hear any skips. The first song, however, is wrong. I accidentally exported Dirty Fingers (alt take) twice and mislabeled it as Ding Dong. Oops. I'll fix that and re-upload. But I didn't have any problems decoding the file.
Jim Alfredson Posted November 26, 2013 Author Report Posted November 26, 2013 I haven't fixed the Ding Dong mistake yet.I also just discovered the DVD cuts off 90 seconds before the actual end. Ugh. Debating how to fix that one without putting myself even more in debt.
Stefan Wood Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 I thought I could drop the flac files into Toast and burn a disc. The tunes were all skipping. I was able to play the files with a flac player and no issues. Converted the files to aiff and no issues on Toast.
Jim Alfredson Posted November 27, 2013 Author Report Posted November 27, 2013 Ah, good to know. Thanks. FLAC files are weird. But so far, the few problems I've heard concerning the ones I've distributed for both this project and the organissimo project have been instances of 'operator error' on the user side. With the exception of my mistake with Ding Dong above.
Stefan Wood Posted November 27, 2013 Report Posted November 27, 2013 It happens. I have to say Jim, the sound quality is terrific! And the bonus disc is chock full of greasy goodness. Love it!
Jim Alfredson Posted November 27, 2013 Author Report Posted November 27, 2013 Thank you! I'm very proud of the sound and it appears from all the comments I've received that I achieved my goal, which was a modern take on the 60s vibe.
Soulstation1 Posted November 30, 2013 Report Posted November 30, 2013 James Oscar What's your fav song off cd?
ghost of miles Posted December 2, 2013 Report Posted December 2, 2013 Note the playlist for today's "Just You and Me": http://indianapublicmedia.org/justyouandme/2013-12-02/
Jim Alfredson Posted December 3, 2013 Author Report Posted December 3, 2013 Thank you, David! SS1, probably Daddy James.
mikeweil Posted December 4, 2013 Report Posted December 4, 2013 ..... that I achieved my goal, which was a modern take on the 60s vibe.
Stefan Wood Posted January 21, 2014 Report Posted January 21, 2014 Snowed in today -- finally listening to the bonus disc from start to finish. I like it even more than the "official release" disc! Puts a smile on my face.
bertrand Posted January 21, 2014 Report Posted January 21, 2014 Yes, the bonus tracks are awesome! Are you still good for Take 5 in September? Bertrand.
DrJ Posted January 25, 2014 Report Posted January 25, 2014 I haven't posted here in a long time but after receiving the standard CD in the mail from Amazon and doing some listening over the past couple of days, just wanted to say JOB WELL DONE! I'm loving this. Beyond the super-cool takes on the Patton tunes and the nice original, it was a very inspired choice to cover Paul's recent masterpiece ballad "My Valentine." You pro musician types just amaze me, the way you can pull off a ballad like this one, done at such a slow tempo, without having the whole damn thing just fall apart. Smoldering and wonderful. Big John's been my favorite of the classic era organists for a long time, and to have him saluted in such fine fashion is like a wonderful late Christmas present. Now I probably gotta take the plunge for the DVD to get the extra tracks!
