chris olivarez Posted February 11, 2005 Report Posted February 11, 2005 Another vote for the Silver N' series to get released. Quote
Eric Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 Anyone care to recommend 3-4 tracks for sampling at itunes? Quote
BFrank Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 "Permit Me to Introduce You to Yourself" "Total Response" "How Much Does it Really Matter" "From the Heart Through the Mind" Quote
jazzman21 Posted February 14, 2005 Report Posted February 14, 2005 My 4 recommendation: That Healin Feelin - "Love Vibrations" Total Response - "Soul Searchin" Total Response - "I Had a Little Talk" All - "Merger of the Minds" Quote
BFrank Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005 Anyone else get a defective version of this? Mine has a weird buzzing on the last 2 tracks of disk #2. BMG is sending me another copy, though. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted February 15, 2005 Report Posted February 15, 2005 Yeah these 3 albums really cook, some of the funkiest stuff i've ever heard and very trippy, but in a good way. Total Response is my fav of the three. Still waitin for the Silver N' stuff 2 be released, got brass which iI s sealed and a NM copy of the double lp strings feat. Gregory Hines (nice stuff and great solos by bandmates). I also got all his Silveto stuff which has that USoM feel to it. So, I guess Silver N' Brass is your favorite of the bunch. Quote
Bright Moments Posted March 26, 2005 Report Posted March 26, 2005 I think Andy Bey KILLS on this set, actually. Worth it for him alone. But the whole thing is a lot of fun. But it's not a hard-bop set, which is probably what many Silver fans are disappointed by. my sentiments exactly! Quote
alankin Posted March 26, 2005 Report Posted March 26, 2005 Now if the lyrics were sung in say, French, then... Quote
BFrank Posted March 30, 2005 Report Posted March 30, 2005 Never did get a good copy of this from BMG. They nicely credited me for the effort, though. Quote
sidewinder Posted August 27, 2005 Report Posted August 27, 2005 Just picked up a copy of this in a local sale. As previously mentioned, best not to approach this thinking it will be a typical Horace hard-bop date. It's definitely of its time but full of great tunes and Andy Bey's vocals are just great. On the whole it's a definite ' '. Reminds me, in spirit, of some of the stuff Duke Pearson was recording for Blue Note around this time. I can see why Horace likes these sessions so much. Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted February 25, 2023 Report Posted February 25, 2023 This stuff is like the jazz equivalent of The Beach Boys Love You. Which is high praise coming from Your Beloved TTK. Quote
