Justin V Posted April 17, 2013 Report Posted April 17, 2013 I stumbled upon Blues in Thirds by Earl Hines at a shop a few days ago. When I went to listen to it, I discovered that it was a '60s pop compilation. It's not that the clerk put the wrong CD in the case, as the CD is stamped as being the Earl Hines album. The shop is far enough away where I'd spend more in gas than I'd be refunded, so I'm stuck with it. Has anyone encountered this problem with Black Lion CDs? The album appears to unavailable via mp3, and I'd be more than a little hesitant to buy it again. Quote
JohnS Posted April 17, 2013 Report Posted April 17, 2013 Not with Black Lion, I had a JVC cd many years ago labelled as Ernie Watts that turned out to be something entirely different. Quote
John L Posted April 17, 2013 Report Posted April 17, 2013 I had a couple Europrean pressed Fantasy CDs that were like that, but never a Black Lion. Quote
mikeweil Posted April 17, 2013 Report Posted April 17, 2013 I once got a Blue Note that turned out pop, but again, never a Black Lion. Quote
Don Brown Posted April 17, 2013 Report Posted April 17, 2013 Back in the LP days I received a copy of Ornette Coleman's Chappaqua Suite on French CBS. It was a two-LP set and one of the discs in the gatefold album was from Bob Dylan's Blonde on Blonde album. What a schlemozzle. It took some time to get things sorted out. Quote
John Tapscott Posted April 17, 2013 Report Posted April 17, 2013 (edited) I once bought a CD (so I thought) in a shrink-wrapped jewel case, but when I opened it at home there was no CD inside. The clerk was skeptical but finally refunded my money because they didn't have another copy. Edited April 17, 2013 by John Tapscott Quote
sonnymax Posted April 17, 2013 Report Posted April 17, 2013 Blues in Thirds is available on iTunes, as well as on some P2P sites. Quote
sidewinder Posted April 18, 2013 Report Posted April 18, 2013 (edited) My re-issue of the RRK 'Rahsaan, Rahsaan' LP turned out to be Lee Morgan's 'Candy' ! Never had a similar problem with Black Lion CDs or LPs though. Edited April 18, 2013 by sidewinder Quote
fent99 Posted April 18, 2013 Report Posted April 18, 2013 I bought Trane's Ascension (the 2 cd version) and one of the CDs was Glen Campbell! Printing on disc said Ascension. It led to an interesting conversation in the wee used shop in south London where he was saying "is that not how its supposed to sound" so we put on the other disc so he could see it wasn't the same. Thank god it was a double or he might have thought that was how Trane sounded and refused the refund... As it was I left with a couple of other things of which Newks Time was one and he said to take Ascension too if I wanted it (I think the music horrified him) Quote

Justin V Posted April 18, 2013 Author Report Posted April 18, 2013 So, is anyone interested in a rare Black Lion mis-pressing? Calling all Del Shannon fanatics... Quote
