Gosh, there are so MANY!

I think an early favorite was "The Wind Cried Mary." It was just so different than what I normally heard coming out of the radio from Lorenco Marques. I really do love the later song writing though, and would have to say "Power to Love" and "Hey Baby (Land of the New Rising Sun)" if you forced me to three (I'd drop "Message to Love.")

Boy, this is a tough one, but...

"Machine Gun"

"Hey Joe"

"Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)"

...and, though I can't technically make anymore selections, here's a vote for "Freedom" & "Red House".

'Third Stone from the Sun'

'Castles made of Sand'

'Red House' (almost any version)

But this is a tough one, as I love 'If 6 was 9', 'Fire', any cut from the 'Band of Gypsys' album, Jimi's version of 'Sunshine of your Love', etc. etc. etc.

who knows (band of gypsys)

first cut I heard.

is something going broke somewhere halfway, when the guitar is taken over by the singer and jimi comes back with a different one (which in my ears he is tuning during the first couple of bars) after that?

Let me toss in some different options:

- Rainy Day, Dream Away

- Ezy Ryder

- Drifting (gorgeous!)

Gotta go with BFrank on this one... "Rainy Day, Dream Away" is my absolute favorite. As for the others...well, there's just too many good ones to pick from!

I'll combine AfricaBrass & BFrank's picks.

Rainy Day, Dream Away - I live in the Pacific NW!

1983 (A Merman I Should Be) - I love side 3 of Electric Ladyland.

Ezy Ryder - Far too dangerous to play while driving.

Yup, there are too many good ones, and other favorites have been listed.

At the risk of catching the wrath of the Hulk, I'll nominate the acoustic apartment tape version of "Angel" as the prettiest song.

Spanish Castle Magic!!!!!!!!!!!

Man, I LOVE this tune - BIG TIME. There aren't a ton of live versions, but every couple years a new one pops up. GREAT tune.

I'll have to think about the other two, and get back to you.

I hate to admit it, but I wasn't much into Jimi when he was alive. Passed up a chance to hear him at a reasonably small hall in Toronto. I came to him through Gil Evans so my favorite is Little Wing. Followed by Angel.

I was lucky to hear Jimy Hendrix (with Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell) at the Paris Olympia back in 1967.

Three favorite tunes:

'Rainy Day, Dream Away'

'Castles Made of Sand'

'Little Miss Strange'

But the choice might have been different on another day...

All three already mentioned, but what can I say...

Little Wing

Castles Made of Sand

1983 (A Merman I Shall Be)

I was too young to appreciate Jimi when he was alive. Hell, I didn't even discover acid until he'd been dead for eight years... ;)

What Chrome said:

All Along the Watchtower

Red House

Crosstown Traffic

Never saw Hendrix, although he did play a number of times here in Portland. Get this. One of those times, he was the opening act for The Monkees. Nice pairing. I think if I was Mike, Peter, Davy or Mickey, I'd have hidden in my dressing room.

Up over and out.

Did anyone have the comp from the mid 90's, I think, called Voodoo Soup? I forget the name of the first song, but the liners said Hendrix played everything on this track. It's an instrumental. It definitely sounds like him, but I never saw the title anywhere else. Anyone know if that was a faked Hendrix track?
