Blue Train
I was watching the Orioles/Rays game. Manny Machado's injury looked really ugly. Hopefully, no ligaments were involved. The Yankees' injured plagued season continues. This time it's C.C. Sabathia. It was already his worst season as a starter. He's not pitching again until next season. Edited September 23, 2013 by Blue Train

Neal Pomea
Nationals mathematically eliminated last night by St L. It was fun taking it down to the last week of the season, but the team didn't play well until August. Can't win like that. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/nationals-journal/wp/2013/09/24/the-nationals-and-what-could-have-been/
Tim McG
We gotta sweep the White Sox...... It can be done! Nationals mathematically eliminated last night by St L. It was fun taking it down to the last week of the season, but the team didn't play well until August. Can't win like that. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/nationals-journal/wp/2013/09/24/the-nationals-and-what-could-have-been/ Yeah, this was a big shocker for me because I figured with how they played last season they would just pick up where they left off. I really thought they'd be the team to beat in the NL East. Edited September 24, 2013 by GoodSpeak
Tim McG
BTW...I had tickets for Sunday's Giants game. I was going to burn a discretionary leave day on Monday so I wouldn't have to drive all night to get home. Our district supervisor trumped that by telling me I had to be at a district office meeting for us Lead Teachers.Must be a Dodgers fan. Blue Train
No torn ligaments for Manny Machado. I was watching yesterday's game and it looked really ugly. I have seen less result in @ least an ACL.

Blue Train
Never understand things like this. It's just a game. The Bryon Stow thing was bad enough....this is even worse. It seems everyone involved in this is younger than me. 24 is way to young to die....especially over baseball. Blue Train
This would be a disaster. Even the teams that could afford it wouldn't pay more than half of this. The Yankees basically bid against themselves for the last contract for Mr. April. They would be doing the same with Cano @ $305 million and 10-years. http://espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/story/_/id/9725806/robinson-cano-seeking-10-year-305-million-deal
T.D.
Big-name free agency in MLB is becoming the ultimate showcase of "Buyer's Remorse" or "Winner's Curse". NYY are screwed either way: their roster is so sorry that they can't afford to let Cano walk, but if they resign him, the tail end (or more) of the bloated contract will be a Pujolsian/Hamiltonian/A-Hole-Rodian disaster. I'll be shocked if the Yankees don't keep him. Edited September 26, 2013 by T.D.
Blue Train
They will sign him, but it's going to be a lot closer to their price/years....unless the Dodgers go crazy. No other team will even come close to $150 million over 6-years for a 2nd baseman.

It is just a waste of humanity and for what...a game? Wow. I am just stunned. Fortunately, this is a very rare occurrence [in fact I can't recall another time] in San Francisco after a Giants game. Fox News is reporting that Bud Selig will resign following the 2014 season. Best news I have heard all week, I mean, besides Zito going away. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/bud-selig-retirement-five-good-things-five-bad-191224987--mlb.html
Blue Train
Things are getting crazy. Dan Gould
Well I am of two minds when it comes to the Rays sudden struggles. Them missing the playoffs would be a nice insult to Maddon's ego - but I am not sure I want to risk facing the Rangers in the ALDS, as the Sox have not played well against them in several years. One thing is for sure - the AL Wild Card race is exactly what they were hoping for when they went to the new system.
