Matthew
Citi Field during the last inning of the Mets 11-2 loss yesterday. While I would be the first to admit that the Mets do suck, and haven't drawn well since moving to Citi Field, allow me to give your post a more realistic and honest perspective by asking you the following question: Would you wait out a rain delay taking place in the top of the 9th inning if your (home) team were losing by 10 runs at the time? I'm the wrong person to ask, I've never left a game before the last out, no matter how far behind or ahead. In terms of a rain delay, that might be different -- in 45 years of attending games, I've never had a drop of rain touch my head (a benefit of living most of my years in SoCal, and Kingdom Seattle). I knew that you wouldn't identify with the rain thing (living in a desert, and all). Hopefully you got my point -- the ballpark's only THAT empty at that point in the game BECAUSE of the rain delay and the score. With Harvey pitching today, I can almost guarantee that Citi is near full.

Tim McG
Citi Field during the last inning of the Mets 11-2 loss yesterday. That could be Dodger Stadium any day. I'm not trying to be flippant, but LA fans just don't support the Dodgers for some odd reason. Or worse, they will show up in the 3rd and leave before the 8th. Go figure. Tim McG
Hey Jim... Remember that conversation we had about fan interference? Well, today a season ticket holder got tossed when he reached over the LF fence to try and catch what could have been a HR. Marco Scuturo was given a ground rule double instead. The fan got tossed as per ATT Park rules. Tol' ja Edited May 13, 2013 by GoodSpeak
JSngry
Fans who reach into the field of play should be ejected. That's not what happened in Arlington. That ball was already over the wall. Interference cannot be called on a ball that's already a HR. Got video so we can contrast and compare? But let's not make this more complicated than it needs to be. In both cases, the rules were appropriately applied by the umpires and the stadium staff. Meanwhile, here's some Giants' fans real-time reaction. JSngry
Well, today a season ticket holder got tossed when he reached over the LF fence to try and catch what could have been a HR. Marco Scuturo was given a ground rule double instead. Just...think about this for a second..."could have" been a home run is not a factor. If it "could have" been a home run, the umpires would have reviewed the play, and if appropriate, ruled that the ball cleared the fence, awarded the batter a HR, and no fan interference would have been called. In that case, i bet Dawg stays in the park, and whoops it up (and rightly so). Hell, I would hope that he would! But from what I can tell (again, video welcome), there was no question about whether the ball "could have" been a home run. It was obvious to all that the ball could not have been, in fact, was not, a home run, that it was obviously staying on the field side of the wall, and that the only outcomes were out or how many bases do we award the batter that are greater than 0 but less than 4?. They could have called the batter out. They gave him a double. Dawg could have been mortally wounded, but instead escaped with a flesh wound. And if the ball really was going to be a home run (which is completely different than "could have been", hell, do you want to give a batter a HR on a ball that "could have" been a home run because of, say Wind Interference? Of The Ballpark Dimension Differential? all of which occur more than fan interference), and all the batter got was a double, you should be really, REALLY pissed off - but at the umpires, not at Dawg. Dawg might very well have put Scutaro on second instead of Upton putting him back on the bench! But nobody was putting that ball into the stands. (again, video welcome to advance the case that the umpires failed - AGAIN! - to award the batter a home run that he should have been awarded). But if you want to instead tell me that AT&T enforces rules that don't exist against fan action that violates no rules, hey, your cries against AT&T's Arbitrary Authoritarianism are welcome here. We are The Voice Of The People! However, I think you need to report that to The Office Of The Commissioner, not to us here at Organissimo! Because that shit just ain't right. Tim McG
It was interference nonetheless. Sure as shootin'. I searched for video and have found nothing yet. Dawg [what a stupid name for an old guy] was tossed and rightfully so. And as a regular at ATT, he ought to know better. JSngry
Yep, you reach into the field of play, you're gonna get tossed. Definitely fan interference, no question. But...does Upton catch that ball otherwise? Looks like he might? Ground Rule Double did the Giants a favor, perhaps. Scutaro could have been called out instead. To be honest, though, it looks like Upton was off by a foot or so. Probably the right call, the double.
