Never heard of or saw this until today. Any good?

I can't see your picture - I'm presuming that it's the original ABC/Paramount album.

Yes, it's good - prime very early Lacy - by that I mean the stuff prior to his Prestige albums. Lacy is already the most interesting soloist; his solos are well-constructed and original, even at that point. Tom Stewart played the tenor horn - basically a euphonium/baritone horn with a smaller bore. He's just fine, as is everyone else. But Lacy already outshines everyone else here.

I've got the original LP, but the pirates have reissued this - Lonehill on The Complete Whitey Mitchell Recordings and Fresh Sound on The Early Years 1954-1956. Whitey Mitchell's ABC/Paramount album from the same period has a similar personnel (including Lacy) and is also well worth hearing. Neither album will change your life, but they are very enjoyable, and fill in some gaps in our understanding of Lacy's development.

Had this before I sold most of my vinyls a few months ago.

Oh! That must have been hard, you had such a fine collection!

Did you sell off the whole lot?

Most of the vinyls went away...

I kept all my CDs, all my Mosaics and quite a number of vinyls I had doubles of... All these will go to the same buyer when I die!

The time (and the money) was right :w

I still have enough music to keep me happy until I reach 150!

A consideration for all of us as we get older.

Interesting music!

:blink::o

That must have been pretty traumatic Brownie ! Presumably all of the nice original Blue Notes were sold too. Paris jazz Corner?

This thread needs to be re-named 'Brownie Sells Vinyl Hoard'.

Good move keeping the Mosaics !

It was a bit traumatic but it was offset by my smiles all the way to the bank :)

The whole lot (more than 8,0000 vinyls) went to Paris Jazz Corner...

How did I guess?

Great to hear that the $$ worked out good. Congrats !

Which will probably keep PJC in business for years (possibly decades) to come, regardless of wether their rent is going to skyrocket or whatever else may happen in that corner of Paris (real estate-wise or otherwise). :g

Probably keep the weekly 'Focus' feature refreshed ad-infinitum..
