jazztrain Posted June 19, 2015 Report Posted June 19, 2015 Burn untruth in public recreational area by hospital accident admissions? 13 letters Glad I don't do crosswordsThat would be "Charlie Parker" Quote
jazztrain Posted June 19, 2015 Report Posted June 19, 2015 6/19/15 Jazz saxophonist Buddy (4 letters) and "_________ Serenades" (1952 jazz album) 8 letters. What the hell is this?!? Google to the rescue, though Satchmo is only 7 letters. It's from today's New York Times. 1 across is "_____ serenades" (1952 jazz album), but it's 7 letters, not 8. So it is "Satchmo"And, of course, 3 down must be Tate. Quote

jazztrain Posted June 19, 2015 Report Posted June 19, 2015 The rest of the puzzle was more challenging. Did you notice the stack of four 15 letter answers at the bottom? Quote

medjuck Posted April 23, 2017 Author Report Posted April 23, 2017 LA Times puzzle today "Jazzman Saunders"-- 4 letters? (I've found the answer but am I the only one who would never get this? ) Quote

(I've found the answer but am I the only one who would never get this? ) Spoiler: KING? I'm sure there are some others here who'd have no problem with the answer, but it does seem awfully out of the ordinary. It's not even an uncommon combination of four letters that it's hard to make a clue for... Is the L.A. Times Sunday puzzle that difficult?! (Highlight to see--it's white type on white background.) medjuck Posted April 23, 2017 Author Report Posted April 23, 2017 (edited) I have to admit I'd never heard of him but I'm not much of a Deadhead. And how is he a "Jazzman"? Edited April 23, 2017 by medjuck Quote
BillF Posted April 23, 2017 Report Posted April 23, 2017 Surely the answer is "Carl". A great favorite of mine! Being somewhat distant from L A, I've only heard him on record. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carl_Saunders Quote
optatio Posted April 23, 2017 Report Posted April 23, 2017 Not to forget Tony - with four letters - son of Merl Saunders https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Saunders_(bassist) ;-)! Quote
